My car might have blown its piston rings, so I thought I would explore my options if this is the case : http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=130570
Can anyone give me some help with what I the costs are to rebuild, either in the stock spec or other options for uprated bits? Could this be a chance to rebuild for more power?
I wouldnt be able to do any of the labour due to lack of time and lack of knowledge!
Would it be better to just break the car and give up?
Any opinions from people who have had to have to have this done or any of the affiliates on what their advice is would be very welcome.

Have you had the report back from the garage yet?? What did they say?
If its just the rings that need replacing it will cost you about £100 for a new set of rings plus labour charges.
If its a full engine rebuild you want (just engine block and cylinder head) your looking at about a grand but prices do vary??

Not yet, but not sure if they have even looked at it yet as its a mate and they are pretty busy so they will look when they get the chance.
How much labour to change the rings?

How much? £4000 of the queens finest for a forged engine rebuild!? Did they line the block with gold or something?
I thought £2000 was steep nevermind double that.

another way to do it rob, would be to buy a COMPLETE rev3 rear clip for about £1200.. put the lot in your car and then sell your remaining bits that you have doubles of (should be easy as rev3 parts are in demand):
gearbox
turbo
cylinder head
alternator
ecu
inlet manifold
injectors
coil pack
etc etc
by doing it this way you may actually get the new engine for free (as parts broken up usualy fetch a premium), minus the cost and time to do the installation....

Depends where you go. If its a friend looking at your car like you said, probably a couple of hundred in labour??
But if they take it apart and find out its caused more damage than just the rings then they might have to take the engine out of the car then it will obviously cost you more.
Personally I wouldnt just change the rings.
You may as well find yourself a spare bottom end, buy all the bits(pistons, rings, bearings, rod bolts, water/oil pumps), have it built then swap it into your shell once complete.
Im tempted to just trade it against another car to be honest and let the dealer put it through auction.
Not gonna spend huge amounts sorting it. At worst ill just break it.
im getting mine done just now just a refresh,
preventitve rather than cure,
new oil,water pump new crank bearings new rings and top end refresh and new timing belt,
im expecting the bill to be round a £1000
if its anymore be selling a kidney
Tell me about it. But either way ill sell it with a "potential problem" just not sure what!
Will be gutted to see it go, but im just not enjoying the ownership anymore.

maybe clean up all ic pipes and intake pipe...

Not going to scrap it as such, will either trade it in or sell it to someone who wants it despite of its weird problem.
