I took it to an auto electrician and he figured it out.

He just said he was testing the distributor and the boxes connected to it, didnt really elaborate more than that (but he did call the faulty part the ignition amplifier, which I assumed was the ignitor?) - I was just happy to have a working car again lol.

Car drives perfect so far, what little driving I could do in this weather. I was thinking, is there a chance he could have used a rev1/2 ignitior? It all drives fine, but I just want to make sure he has used the right part, as mine is a 93 where rev2 and 3 crossed over.

if you hit rev limit at 5.5-6k, then youd have the older ignitor
if you can drive up to 7k rpm, safe to say youve the right part.

That was the only test I knew of also, and i slowly reved it to the 7200 limit in first and was fine

How much is a new ignitor? I take it you only really want genuine toyota?

And not 2nd hand or blue print?

Has anyone got info on how to do the sensor check on the commandor so I can help eliminate things? Mine didnt come with any instructions since was 2nd hand.
