Got to car this morning, flat battery
Tried jumping - turned over very slowly but wouldnt start at all
Got a new battery @ halfords, rated at 510 amps
Still wont start!! it turns over really healthy now but wont fire.
is it possible I flooded the engine earlier trying to start it or something?
Any tips to get her going?
or does it sound like something more serious is up?

Forgot to say, it does STINK of fuel now when I turned it over
Re: Car wont start! help!
So my mate used his AA membership, they came out and found the plugs where drenches in fuel. Managed to try them out and got her starting keeping the revs up until all the plugs where dried etc.
Took it for a spin, all good - boosting fine. Lower revs where fine.
Left it idling in a car park for 10 mins while I spoke to a mate then suddenly it started spluttering again like it did when the car first started after the flooding!
Now whenever the revs go below about 2k for more then a few minutes it starts to splutter and feels like the engine will cut out so I have to give it revs and keep them above 3k for it not to happen.
if I put my foot down it will boost fine its just when trying to drive normally/slowly at lower revs it starts to splutter!
Any ideas? did I do any damage from when the engine was flooded?
many thanks!

It worries me a bit that your car was running 1.4bar of boost, your running issues could be any number of things right now including lack of compression.

Re: Car wont start! help!
Did the AA check the spark to each cylinder??

Re: Car wont start! help!
They couldn't because the throttle stuff was in the way so they only cleared plugs 1 and 4 I think - could that be the problem?
Just annoying as it WAS running fine then I just left it idling happy for 10 mins or so and it started spluttering at lower revs

Re: Car wont start! help!
Yes if the spark to each cylinder hasnt been checked that would be next on my list.
The last time I seen something similar that wasnt a engine on low compression, it was due to vacume line to the FPR being disconnected.
But get the spark to each cylinder checked for sure.

OK I'll prolly just try and get it to you guys in the week if thats cool.
Does low compression = properly broken engine or is it resolvable?

Lets live in hope fella! everything is fixable. Usually these things are very simple. My only concern is the 1.4bar of boost.
Dont be overly concerned yet.

Re: Car wont start! help!
Cool thanks James - whats the latest I can drop the car off on a weekday?
Just with work etc it might be tricky to get there until about 6ish maybe.
Or if no one is around can I just park the car up and and leave keys through a letter box?

Re: Car wont start! help!
Awesome.
I'm just trying to arrange lifts etc, but will give you a shout when I know whats happening.
Regarding the 1.4 bar thing, I think the prev owner may of been exagerating (as I've only had the car for 2 weeks) but with the boost controller as its set up its doing about 1.2 max anyway so if it was 1.4 I think it would of been very occasional use. Certainly not high miles at silly levels of boost.
Hoping its something simple but will let you guys do your magic
Cheers

Well dropped her off
In typical sods-law fashion after a smokey-start she was fine all the way there. left it idling for 10 mins when we got there and no spluttering at all.
Very strange. Hopefully you guys can get to the bottom of it!
Cheers

Re: Car wont start! help!
Mine was doing this after I rewired my engine. I think it was to do with flooding etc. because mine went round the block ok but was still spluttering and dying after awhile idling.
I sorted it by taking it onto the motorway and giving it a proper workout. Cleared everything out and ran perfectly since

Re: Car wont start! help!
I got a feeling this might be all it was as after its second outting following the flooding it appears to of been running fine.
Will see what 3S make of it all though for peace of mind!
