Discussion and technical advice the SW20 MR2. 3S-GTE, 3S-GE, 3S-FE etc
Anything and everything to do with maintenance, modifications and electrical is in here for the Mk2.
1) Only get the car serviced at a reliable garage.
2) Accept that, like it or not, your car WON'T keep up with a modern hot hatch.
3) Never, ever take the back end for granted. As soon as you do, it'll bite.

OK just bought my first tubby with a few mods and it is faster than any hot hatch out there in Staffordshire. TVRs do seem a problem but hot hatches just go away in my rear mirror

Thought that'd make somebody bite.
In the dry an MR2 is fine but almost anything is faster through a twisty road in bad weather.
The front is so light that it runs wide very easily, the back is twitchy and no amount of extra power is gonna help that.
Can't get the nose into an apex? Loose the back end if your too early on the loud pedal? P'raps you should get your suspension/geometry sorted out then fella and practice some more.

P'raps you need to get some time in a more modern car?
Not making any comparison with anything else ... more modern or not though I drive Miches mk3 as much as my rev1 these days. Just saying I personally don't get much understeer at all and wouldn't call the back twitchy. It's fairly quick once it goes granted but that doesn't make it twitchy.
Ensure all the steering components are tip top
Ensure all Suspension components are tip top
Ensure the engine is performing bang on
We find more frequently cars in a bad state of repair, the ownership is not nearly as much fun when the above 3 are not bang on, the mr2 is quite a sensitive car, listen to her and she will tell you whats wrong.
Enjoy.

Very true. You would say take care on twisty roads in bad weather, the car is a bit tail happy in the wet and respect must be given. On decent roads however the MR2 will outgun most hot hatches out there. The acceleration is outstanding.
