Turbo`s, Spot the difference. (with pics)

Post by platmatt8 »

I`ve just been sorting some old pictures out when i noticed that my current rev2(k reg) and my previous rev2(L reg) have different compressor wheels. Can someone explain whats going on?

Why would you do this?

What gains are there to be had?

I would have to take them, mine is similar to your L one, except it has another set of fins, so instead of making a 5 point star, i have 6

Is it not the exhaust side that gets clipped :? , either way Jay is right about a little more top end power.
Looking at the top picture it almost looks as if someone has put the wrong housing on the turbo, out of interest how did the car drive ?

The Car drives fine (the k reg is my current car, L reg previous car) never really noticed any diffrence.

The housing is a ct26 unit, makes me wish i`d paid a little more attention when i removed the DP so i could have checked the exhaust turbine for steel or cermamic #-o

Does anybody know the science behind clipped blades?

would they not have to be clipped perfectly even so it didnt off balance the turbo?

Well lets ignore wheel clipping for now.

My next question is what are the benefits of a smaller compressor wheel?

Smaller compressor wheel should give better spool but wont boost as high I think.
