[Mk2 NA] Engine Cover "Blanket"

Post by gareth7000 »

The material stuff which covers the underside of the engine cover on my N/A is looking pretty shabby, and has torn in a few places where the clips hold (or used to hold, anyway) it on.

What is it?
Do I need it?
Can I just pull it off and throw it away when I get home tonight?

Or should I really leave it and try and find a way of repairing/replacing it?

(You can't tell that this is my first 2, can you? :D )

Yeah, kind of like a blanket. Insulation or soundproofing or something, probably!

I take it your car does well enough without it then? ;)

Take it off, early cars didn't have it. Sound insulation, and keeps your engine nice and warm (which is not nice).

I also been wondering what its purpose is. :-k
Couldnt, at first, think of anything as its just a blanket but you never know.

It just got binned. Bring on extra engine "tunes" \:D/

Mine's gone! The only problem now is that I have to clean the underside of the engine lid #-o

It's also a heat protector, to stop the heat peeling ya paint under the hood....but that's just a minor point I guess now you've thrown it out. 8-[

I've been wondering this. Always taken it off on previous cars but the 2 seems to run hotter.... Half of mine fell off anyway so time will tell.

I think I kept the clips - maybe I'll buy some more material! Or is there anything a bit neater that I could use?
