Hello Everyone
First post, hopefully alot more to come in the not so distance future
Have a few questions to ask please, All been well by the weekend i'll own my first mr2 turbo, Are these a car that you can used for 40 miles per day?
Also whats reliability like? And MPG, i appreciate it's a 2.0 turbo so not going to be really good but a guide line would be nice, it's standard BTW.
When looking at it the weekend is there any major things i should be looking for?
Sorry for all the questions, but any help would be appreciated.
Cheers
Matt

Re: REV 3 turbo advice please
i get 220/240 miles to tank on short 7 mile trips, been 100% reliable my car in 8 months or so, but i have a VERY GOOD example
Re: REV 3 turbo advice please
It's the luck of the draw for reliability, my last rev3 turbo was modded to around 280 bhp, was my daily driver and never broke down in 4 years, didn't even need brake pads or a clutch etc.
Just knock sensor and a relay but they weren't really breakdowns...

Re: REV 3 turbo advice please
You can get around 30mpg on a nice 60mph cruise. Expect mid 20s around town and low 20s when you give it some boost
Dont forget that you should only run these on super unleaded too as they are set up for Japanese 100octane.

wise words. If you own a 2 ltr turbo, rwd, 2 door, 2 seat, mid engined sports car, you really cant be all that bothered about mpg. Fill it, use it, fill it again.

Thanks for all the replys.
This is the one i am going to look at on saturday:

Do you guys reckon it's worth 4k? If not what is it worth roughly?

Well i'm swapping it for a 2003 clio 172 cup with 48k, Clio IS worth 4k, just wanted to make sure i wern't been cut short and wanted a few more opinions.
Re: REV 3 turbo advice please
Looks a nice car, I reckon 300bhp is a shade ambitious though. Has he got a dyno print out?

Re: REV 3 turbo advice please
Just a little update, went to look at the car and the front bumper really wasn't to my fancy, mechanically the car was great and certainly very quick in comparison to my clio.
The seller has been great though, He was happy with my car and agreed to change the bumper to a standard rev 3 item and put the fogs etc back in.
Will be selling the wheels off it too as i'm not overly keen, seem to be worth a pretty penny too!
Hopefully in the next couple of days i have it, can't wait to be honest

I shall be, in theory i've got to learnt to drive again. Only really used to front wheel drive, so will get used to the car before theres any heroics!
Re: REV 3 turbo advice please
Looks great, best colour IMO!
Yeah take a while to get used to how it drives, its much different to a FWD car. But once you get the hang of using the mid engine traction and power on the exits of corners its fantastic

Re: REV 3 turbo advice please
Have you picked this up yet dude? Went to look at this three weeks ago when I was looking for mine - seriously unimpressed we didn't even drive it, body needs a lot of work IMHO to sort it out. Peeling/bubbling laquer, dodgy panel gaps, overspray. We even found masking tape under the boot lid left over from paintwork. All IMHO of course but we ran a mile! Got a much tider example with some nicer mods for a LOT less than this guy was asking.
Sorry if this isn't what you're wanting to hear

Alister,
Thank you for your post, Much appreciated.
I havn't picked the car up yet, but i mean this in the nicest possible way - what damage to the paintwork are you talking about? I'm aware of the bumper, but the rest of the body looked pretty damn tidy to me.
When i went over the car i only found minor faults, nothing i wouldn't expect from a car of its age.
Can you remember any particular bad parts i can have a look at in more detail please?
Thank You
Matt
Re: REV 3 turbo advice please
Hi Matt, i only posted that by way of helping out. The front end was a right mess, obv the bumper is being changed so that will help. The inner arch liners had been bodged on and were hanging off. Check both front wings as there's bubbling paint/laquer, the boot lid doesn't line up with the engine cover and one of the corners of it had some laquer peeling. There was also some kind of laquer issue on the passenger side rear quarter round the window seal. We did a deal over the phone for 3.5k and i went down there with cash wanting to drive it away bearing in mind it was described as mint. In our views it was no where near mint. I felt as though my time had been totally wasted. Also doesn't add up why he'd want your car as if told me he'd put a deposit on something else already. Also the reasons for sale etc and the number of owners didnt add up. Alarm bells were ringing before i even went but i gave it the benefit of the doubt as it looked so tidy in the pics. If you can genuinely sell your car for 4k then i think its not a good deal. I also thought that it'd be hard to sell on. I'd have only bought it for a seriously cheap price like 2k. There are much better examples around i think. All this is just my opinion of course, but 2 of us who have bought and sold a fair few cars between us thought it was a bit of a dog to be blunt. Of course your opinion may be different and thats fine, but if you do decide to go for it then i'd certainly consider having it inspected by an mr2 specialist first. If u want to talk more pm me.

he should be thanking his lucky stars you stumbled across this thread mate i would be if i were him anyone should be happy that someone has taken the time to exspress there oppinions on a car that could hav a dodgy past etc to stop them wasting there hard earned cash, most would just sit back and say nothing
