best place for front grooved brake discs?
time to upgrade...is there any real point on going grooved on the rears?
Re: best place for front grooved brake discs?
Personally on a road car i wouldnt even bother with grooved on the front (or rear) myself. Quality standard disks and uprated pads would be my recommendation, along with a proper bleed through with good brake fluid. I'd spend my own money on uprated hoses if not already done.

Re: best place for front grooved brake discs?
cool thanks....I kind of have that feeling from reading around. Apart from toyota, what places are good online to buy discs and pads. EBC green pads seems to be the main name I'm reading...would it be best for ther pads all round or just up front?
Re: best place for front grooved brake discs?
I've never been impressed with EBC greenstuff myself - very dusty and no real improvement in brake performance (at least on my previous car - a Saxo so about the same weight as an MR2).
Carbotech, Mintex 1144 or Ferodo DS2500 would get my vote for a car of this weight - not used any yet myself though so others will advise no doubt. Not sure on suppliers sorry.

I use standard disks and EBC greenstuff on my mk1. I find them better then standard, they produce less dust and are fine for fast road use. They can take a minute or two to warm up though in very cold weather.
I'd get some new disks, SS braided lines, new fluid and upgraded pads.

Re: best place for front grooved brake discs?
sounds like a plan. whats the best places to buy this unleashed?
Re: best place for front grooved brake discs?
Disks from Brakes International ( www.brakesint.co.uk )
Re: best place for front grooved brake discs?
There are lots of posts (and opinions!) on which barke discs and pads so also worth a search on the forum.
I use standard discs, greenstuff pads on the front only, standard on the back and new fluid and i find the brakes fine for road use. Initial bite when cold not as good but they soon warm up and are better than standard with the greenstuff pads.

Re: best place for front grooved brake discs?
I bought the EBC greenstuff pads and grooved discs package off of ebay last october. Waste of money imo.
The front pads outlasted the bloody discs!! I had to change my discs back to standard.
Although in saying the fronts were utterly terrible as they warped within 9 months, the rears have plenty of meat left on the pad and the discs are fine.

Standard discs with EBC Redstuff for road use (and/or occasional track) is a good combo

when i checked it wasn't there and now it is! STRANGE!
only saving £10 but its a saving. wouldn't the standard EBC be better? its only a £10 more.

Look nice
I fitted grooved and drilled disks and fast road pads a few years ago and got the lot from the US, some place in California. The disks were german, but cost less in the US than in the EU by a long margin. The shipping was almost as expensive as the brakes, but the whole lot cost about £250. I don't know if they're better or worse, but they look really nice on the car. I have ST-165 calipers on the front as well, and all painted racy red.
(I'll get my coat...)

Re: best place for front grooved brake discs?
My EBC front grooved and drilled discs lasted 8months before they warped. They are crap.
Re: best place for front grooved brake discs?
Drilled discs are rubbish because they are drilled after they have been cast. Same goes with Drilled & grooved.
Decent disc manufacturers (i.e Brembo, AP Racing etc...) cast the discs with the holes - hence the price & quality. A mate has a GT3 RS - the discs of his choice cost £6k per axle - much more than 95% of AW11's currently on the road are worth
Grooved disc are generally better, but cause exessive pad wear - fine if used predominantly on track and you need the glazing to be sliced off constantly, but can be costly.
I have seen EBC drilled discs crack so bad they could have shattered at any moment

Re: best place for front grooved brake discs?
Well you have got the choice of buying the EBC discs which are £10 more expensive than the discs on Brakes International - But you'll have to spend the money again within a year buying replacements. Whereas if you buy standard discs they'll last you a damn sight longer than the grooved ones.
