strong fumes smell

Post by luke t »

ive got a few mods on my rev 3 turbo. induction(blitz sus), intercooler, downpipe, hks ssqv, blitz dsbc, plugs and leads etc and ive recently put a new lambda sensor from rogue on.
im sure its overfueling as it cost a fortune in petrol, and when i pull up anywhere people comment on how strong the fumes smell. 1 bloke thought i was running nos on it!
ive just got hold of an apexi ecu and hand commander in the hope i can sort out my fuel air mix, and get it running well. will this work? and if so, do i have to get it mapped by a pro, or is the hand commander used to adjust it yourself.
im in the north east so anybody who knows a good place to go let me know.
cheers fallas

When my car stank of fuel it was the simplest thing - I had a fuel leak! Check out the fuel lines, and especially the banjo bolts at the ends of each line - if any of the fuel lines have been disconnected and the crush washer reused then you could have a small leak.

im pretty sure its from the exhaust, you can smell strong fumes smell rather than petrol.
i use shell optimax, which hums a little more, but i think its overfuelling a lot

test your o2 sensor and could be your injector seals, i had the same problem recently and it was my injector seals, I could smell petrol after hard acceleration also

ive recently replaced the lambda sensor, which i think is what you are refering to as the o2 sensor.
got it from rogue, but it didnt seem to make a difference

The Ecu is a PowerFC right?

Get it mapped by a Pro with Wideband lambda. Not worth nuking your engine if you are not sure.

yea, its a power fc with hand commander. im thinking about not using the hand commander and selling it. ive got a boost controller and boost guage already and turbo timer, and my cockpit looks like blackpool iluminations.
whats a wideband lambda?
is it something i need to get before i go to get the apexi mapped?
also, any ideas where to get it mapped in north east?
cheers

i wouldnt sell the hand commander if i were you buddy its a great bit of kit and can do a hell of a alot more than ajust boost settings

you can monitor all these parameters

injector duty cycle
ignition timing (leading)
ignition timing (trailing)
engine RPM
spead kpm/mph
boost
Knock/detonation levels
water temp
air intake temp
battery voltage

all on one screen

you can also alter these parameters whith it aswell

ignition timing (leading)
ignition timing (trailing)
engine RPM
fuel correction mapp
fuel sensor correction
injector correction/ and settings
boost settings
accelaration enrichment and correction
ignition timing/fuel test correction
cranking fuel correction

and more

wideband sensor an guage are normally used when mapping they will normally fit one for you when they start

would be best to invest in one for the future its a more accurate way to measure air fuel ratios

the sensor goes into the exhuast system aswell as keeping your original sensor, mount the new wide band sensor as far way from the cat or turbo as possible as heat can interfear whith the sensor, giving weird readings, i found just before the back boxs work very well

aem is one of the best product on the market

hers sum links buddy

guage, how it work etc

no dude the hand commander cant read a/f ratio

the reason why peaple run wideband sensors is because narrow band wich is the stock sensor is very dated technolgy and isnt that accurate

were as the wideband guage from aem if 99.9percent accurate
trust me dude it may cost 150 but can save you from runnin your engine lean (which will cause it to go BOOM!!) when turning boost up etc and not knowing because you hav no guage to go by its a must in tunnin now

plus when you go to hav your car mapped they will charge you nearly what the aem guage/sensor costs to hav to fit there sensor into your exhaust system as they hav to fabricate a small threaded bung into in it etc.... so you might aswell do it your self and hav the aem guage to go with :thumleft:
