Anyone know if a mk1 gearbox will fit in the boot?

Post by kaiowas »

Just bought one on eBay for the princely sum of £1.99 and I'm just wondering whether I'll have to take the other half's car when I collect or if I'll be able to put it in the back of the '2

Anyone tried this before or got a gearbox lying around they can try it with? my car is a mk1b if the extra intake system bits taking up bootspace will make any difference.

Not an MR2 boot no! LOL

Your biggest problem will be the weight. These feckers are HEAVY. Lifting it up to boot level is going to present you with an interesting problem, take some strong mates.

I've had the box out of my old one before so know the weight well enough. I just couldn't remember the bulk of it.

It'll fit easily on the passenger seat with a board under it and strapped in, or remove the seat.

Just watch out for the oil, it's a pain to get out of any cloth and will stink for months so keep it upright (voice of experience  )!

Cheers all.

Looks like I'll have to give the GF a choice - Either she stays at home or I put dirty oily things in the back of her car. :p
