hi guys,
just wondering what everyone is getting mpg wise on a mk 2 turbo? I was told that they do about 25-30 mpg, which i now think is complete b0ll0cks! Im not too sure exactly how to work it out, but basically if i put £20 worth of petrol in (about 18 litres) i am lucky to get 80 miles out of it Which I think is pretty crap...
Does anyone get similar mileage? My new car is a 91, I used to own a 95 N/A which was obviously better on fuel but I didn't think the difference would be so great, especially driving around town when the turbo hardly gets used anyways.
Any help appreciated, don't get me wrong I wouldn't trade the car in for anything, I just might have to take out a loan to pay for my petrol! lol

Re: MPG on Mk 2 turbo - is it really this bad!?
i used to get 300-320 weekly on a rev2 tubby as my daily driver. obviously it depends on how much right foot you use but that seems low for what your getting
Re: MPG on Mk 2 turbo - is it really this bad!?
That would seem about right with mixed driving mate, bit of town, motorway and the odd blast here and there.
Should'nt have bought a turbo if your worried about fuel bills dude
Think its about £45ish too fill the tank and i usualy get 260-280 miles out of it depending how much loud pedal im using.

Oh, thats in an NA

completely depends how you drive it.
Last time out I did a whole tank in 80 miles (but that was at Donington )
On the motorway get close to 300 miles to a tank.
Mixed driving is obviously somewhere in between.

I managed 30mpg when doing constant 70ish before.
But you should be expecting around 20ish most of the time. Not the right car if you are worried about fuel economy. However, there could be something wrong with your car that is causing very low mpg. When did you last change your Lambda(o2) sensor?

Re: MPG on Mk 2 turbo - is it really this bad!?
Most I've managed is 32mpg, least I've managed is 18mpg. Average is somewhere in the middle.
Re: MPG on Mk 2 turbo - is it really this bad!?
down to how you drive mostly.
although there are other reasons (old lambda sensor etc)
i usually get around 310 to a full tank when just cruising.
a mix of town and motorway blasting usually still returns over 250

I usually get about 220-250 a tank with bigger injectors and 400 hp as a weekend fun car (fun = heavy foot) which incidently is about the same as I got when the car was running 280-300 hp relatively standard as a daily driver

think you might be right about the lambda sensor i will have to get it checked, im pretty sure the emissions are too high on it. The car smells very petrolly if you put your foot down!
I put my foot down when i can but to be honest not all the time as i am on 30 roads a lot, so this confirms my suspicions that something is afoot! Think ill check out the lambd sensor first, cheers for the input guys...

The ECU only works closed loop (with lambda sensor) at very small throttle openings then goes open loop.
Check for leaks around the fuel injectors if you can smell fuel.

Re: MPG on Mk 2 turbo - is it really this bad!?
On a motorway at 70, 3000 rpm you should get 320 miles to a tank full. As soon as you go over 3000rpm the engine runs rich but does lean out again at about 85 mph. My REV1 if far better on fuel than my REV2.
Now I have a wideband fitted I will lean out the engine and change timing with my adjustable ECU.

80miles? lol
Best I used to get is about 240 average for about £38, yours sounds low but as everyone says, if you drive it like you stole it you better be prepared to be your fuel gauges b**ch! it will soon own you and your wallet.

Round town with the occasional blast i get 25mpg but on a long run with motorways and A roads i have averaged 33mpg consitantly.
If your consumption is really bad check for error codes on the ECU. It's the only car i have ever driven wher you can actually watch the needle drop even on a very short journey.

Re: MPG on Mk 2 turbo - is it really this bad!?
i get 100kms to 10 litres as a verage thats 60 miles mixed driving 330 bhp
Re: MPG on Mk 2 turbo - is it really this bad!?
100km * 5/8 = 62.5miles
10 litres / 4.546 = 2.20gals
so mpg = 62.5/2.20 = 28.4 mpg
10 litres / 4.546 = 2.20gals
