I only notice it when I'm moving the wheel at low speeds or when stationary. Usually when pulling off from a stop or in traffic. It doesn't do it over bumps and is gone when moving at a steady speed, just over 20 mph. The handling hasn't changed either. Also noticed it more in this dry weather. When it's damp it isn't as noticeable. But dry weather its really quite scary sounding. 
Id say its high up, top mount area.
I changed the mounts a few weeks back. The problem went. But has now come back just the same. It sailed through the MOT and everything looks like it's fine.
