[Mk2] [Turbo] how does the actuator arm connect to the wastegate

Post by lee.w »

I know one end of the actuator is bolted on to the turbo but what about the other end of the arm , is it clipped on , screwed on ? , because I think mine is not connected to the wastegate, due to having my downpipe recently fitted from a garage , I have no boost/power at all. so I think the wastegate is flapping open as someone mentioned on my other post. The same garage will be looking at it again tommorow I just hope it's easy to put back on if thats the case

Only one end of the wastegate rod is detachable, the other is fixed into the actuator. It is held onto the wastegate flapper by a small cir clip.

The rod from the actuator has a hole in it. This fits over a pin on the wastegate flap. This is then held inplace with a circlip.

look at the back of the actuator, check for a "clean" bit of rod like this:

This will show you if the actuator is stuck open.

You can always test it...

Removing a few heatshields could prove useful if you've not already done so.

I can't see why they would disconnect the wastegate flap/actuator rod though when fitting a downpipe.
