How can you visually tell a gearbox is lsd with the driveshafts out?

I have a gearbox sitting in my garage which has a hex bar when you LOOK through the hole where the driveshafts go. Am i right in saying this is a non lsd box as on an lsd box you would be able to see through it.

No mate as far as I`m aware its the other way around.

Bar means LSD, no bar means no LSD.

You looking at selling have got a friend who`s after a Rev 3+ LSD box.

I thought it was the other way round...?
A bar means open diff, see through means limited slip diff

i.e

Non LSD

Or in a nutshell

I agree with you roland, just trying to make sure 100% before advertising as thats the way i thought it was but after a search on imoc i ended up really really confused as lots of answers conflicted

Is that a picture of an MR2 gearbox or an N/A box, because it looks like the selector shaft is at the bottom, this is not where it's at on all the E153's I have seen.

Which gearbox does this apply to?

Incidentally the bar through the middle = LSD

on standard e153 gearboxes
bar through the middle= lsd
If it has a upgraded lsd like a kaaz it WONT have the bar.

Depends on if its a tubby box or not.

Tubby boxes with bar through means you have a LSD

N/A's have a bar through even on the non lsd boxes.

Was told this by Nathan at MrTwo's

We thought a N/A we were working on had a LSD due to it having a bar throught the middle, he said "no as N/A boxes are different to tubby boxes"

Helping a friend break his mr2 after he pulled up with it on fire on my drive

Anyway 110% the gearbox was attached to a rev3 turbo lump as i removed the engine from the car myself and took the gearbox off, so unless na boxes fit turbos its a turbo box

Yeh that's a turbo box, strange how the other pictures don't look like the same gbox.
