some say it is due to improper installation

I have a gripe with this comment from manufacturers... I put it to them, how can you fit a clutch wrongly ??!! Plate only goes one way, cover only bolts up, bearing only fits one way... stick it all together... and make sure the pedals half way......

I've seen the friction plate shear in 2, friction plate perish, friction plate mounting / damper spring casing come apart - all causing discomfort in removing the box and changing it !

SPEC's clutches... clutches in general.. if your car is producing X amount of torque... dont go buying a clutch that is limited to that spec... go for something usually in the region of 30% more calmping force - and dont get your units mixed up... people speed reading at Newtons / Lbs.

:thumleft:

I think one of the SPEC vendors in the US mentioned one of the most common installation errors was a bent clutch disk from hanging the transmission input shaft on the clutch disk during installation.

Like a mouse... just like a standard clutch.... The ceremetallic plates are the sellers, most are organic or some other lower grade friction composite.

In reality... if your clutch cover is still good no wear marks ( unlikely ), you can just buy the friction plate and fit it... since the cover is toyota spec.. unless going for the uprated cover.. but still dimensionally the same...

I've used them for years.. and people I know have used them with reliability. Others have let them down on the dragway... slipping on a hard launch... or slipping when hot !

Clutch

Post by Ja99a »

I have an ACT clutch which is holding well so far, I am refitting it to a rebuilt engine which I hope will put down 350 whp, I will feed back if it slips.

The ACT cover has increased clamp, so thanks for the info I won't start with the clutch pressed.

Oh I had this clutch running 272ftlb and 262hp with zero slip, actually a little fierce, but has an easy pedal.

I liked the kit as it had a release bearing etc

Oh ans some tool box stickers.... LOL.

what means a little "fierce"?Does it make rattle noises?
how many miles do you drive this clutch?

What is the release bearing good for?please explain that to a noob.I just know that from transmission.

thanks :)
