Beams Engine

Post by si2040 »

Hi Guys,

Might be planning to get one.. can you tell me what your experiences are with these. I have a REV1 N/A will I see a huge preformance gain thats instantly noticable? Its roughly 50BHP more so trying to see if this will really make a huge difference.

I had one before my current MR2 (turbo) and i loved it! Be very careful with any modifications you plan on doing (if any) because it is a highly tuned engine as it is and you may end up losing power.

Speak to Nikk1877 or RST on here, or MR2OC.co.uk

They both have a great deal of knowledge on Beams MR2's. Both spent a fair whack too!

Anyway, any excuse!!!

I'd likewise like to know peoples opinions on this. I too have a rev1 which has just had bodywork and suspension renewed. If the motor goes I'd replace and keep the car with something new behind my ears. V6 or beams....I wonder? Hope it's not a decision I have to make for a good while yet though.

I've never driven a n/a rev1, only the rev2 n/a. There is a difference but its not like night and day, as it would be going from n/a to turbo.

I enjoyed both N/A's, especially my Beams BUT having finally got a turbo, i wouldnt go back to a N/A unless i needed a cheaper second car.

Get a turbo!

I've just bought a beams as a 2nd MR2. It's a whole lot different to a normal N/A. A friend of mine has a 96 Rev 3 N/a and it's got plenty of mods but mine wipes floor with it. As an everyday car it is great. Nice and nippy, decent economy etc.

But if you want faster than that, go turbo. Beware of the costs of a turbo though. 240ish bhp is great....for about a week...few grand later...300bhp....and it just keeps going!!! :D
