Monocraft GT300 - no.1 up for sale!!

Post by KarlBristol »

I thought that this might be of interest to some of the MK3 lovers on here... During one of my usual eBay visits I've stumbled across the first production Monocraft GT300 for sale. It clearly needs some love and work doing to it, and isn't roadworthy but still seems like it could be a good buy at the right price :-k

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Toyota-Mr2-Gt ... 4d140cc3f9

Is it me or do these never seem to be up for sale, let alone such a rare production no. :-k

Thoughts?
Any idea how much something like this should be worth?

Hang on, I know that car! That's Adam's old car! :D

Image

That was taken at JAE 2004, always wondered what happened to it. I didn't realise at the time that it was no.1, and I have to admit to being a bit sceptical of that as I would've thought that Adam would've mentioned it at some point, but then I didn't know him that well at the time before he disappeared off the grid.

I wonder how much of the 2ZZ install and other bits have been changed? It used to sound incredible with the Kakimoto exhaust installed. I wonder if that last dyno run was done at the dyno place in Witham when Adam, Markiii and myself all got our cars done at the same time?

I am not a fan of the look of mk3's but I really wouldn't mind this as a project ( to add to my other projects  ) wonder what it will go for?

Dunno, but there's no mention of either of the two crashes (at least!) that's it's had in its life.

I don't remember Adam ever mentioning that it was number 001. I'm pretty sure he would have!

Some of his old webpages are still around:

A bit concerned, Brian,

1. The seller never mentioned about the accident damaged?.. Why!. It must be a cat C or D! Surely on the v5?..
2. If it was/is 001/100, there must be loads of history?.

Out of interest how would one check point 2, to know it was correct!

Cheers

With it being imported, you do quite often find that a lot of the paperwork/history/receipts get lost when imported. That could genuinely be the case. If it's of interest to you, it's worth a trip to go and have a proper look. I've bought cars a fair distance away from home, but if it's the right car for you then it's worth it!

It's a definite genuine GT300, of that I'm sure. I'm 99% confident it's not no1 though, so that bit has been added somewhere down the line.

CAT status would've been added had it been insured in this country when the damage occurred, but as it happened overseas it won't show up here. It passed MOTs happily, I know that much, but other than I wouldn't like to pass any comment on the mechanical or bodywork side of things.

Check it for yourself, and assume that nothing works. The 2ZZ conversion still had some teething issues (like not hitting lift) when I saw it last, so don't think that it'll be a case of sticking a new battery and some fresh oil in and away you go.

It looks like an absolute shed of a car to me now, but if you fancy a long-term project then it's as good as any.

Cheers Ekona.. :thumleft:

Thanks for all the info

Im a MR2 enthusiast, currently have 2 -turbos..one is restored to standard-ish, whilst the other is a heavily modified beast with 514bhp. .

looking to sell the standard one to fund a new project, it would be a shame for such a rare car to be bought by a non enthusiastic. . [-(

Definitely looks like it needs a bit of TLC.
