A Christmas message from your Chairman

Post by Scott Barton »

Hello all!
I thought i would say a few words to wish every member a very happy and healthy new year. If you are not ready for it now then i guess its too late! Unless you are like me, and prefer a bit of last minute panic buying! :thumleft:

The winter period can be a very quiet spell as far as car clubs are concerned and IMOC-UK is no different, but one thing i can say is that we have a very active forum community, and i am sure that you will find solace on here when the you have stuffed yourselves silly with turkey and mince pies! I am sure there will be a few people looking for advice on how to fit the new parts that Santa has bought them for Christmas!

2012 saw a good turnout for the club at our annual JAE outing, where once again we welcomed our German friends to our fold. We also did the return visit to Duderstadt where a good number of us travelled to spend a good few days drinking and eating with members of the German, Dutch, Austrian and Swiss MR2 clubs. A great time was had by all, and pics can be found on the various threads created. New friendships were formed, and existing ones were strengthend...long may it continue.
Other events probably did not get the exposure they deserved due to the lack of a main events organiser. We desperately need to fill this position, so if anyone has a few hours to spare and can coordinate some events, we would be very much appreciative. Please contact me or other members of the IMOC team if you are interested.

JAE 2013 is currently being planned, and we have already secured the plot for the club. More information will be made available in the next few months with regards to dates and event information. Rest assured, the institution that is the 'Hog Roast' will make its appearance! Its the clubs way of thanking you all for the continued support that you give to the club.....quite simply, if it was not for you the members, then there would be no IMOC-UK.

So, without further ado, and me rambling on, i would like to personally, and on behalf of the entire IMOC team, wish you and your family a very merry christmas and a happy new year.

See you all in 2013!!

Kind regards

Scott Barton

That's how a forum works. Posts from years ago are all still here. They just het further down the list as more posts are added. Ones that get commented on go to the top of the list.

Who decides what's useful? It would mean somebody going through them all and deleting them. Because the posts are just plain text and photos are hosted elsewhere it means the post sizes are tiny. Like kilobytes of data. If a post is useless it soon goes to the bottom of the list.

I'm certainly not going through all the posts to see what's useful and what isn't. Like i said, The posts are so small in size there's no point in deleting them.

fair enough

you do know they are not text files, but fields in a database and every post is a field ?

could this be why the search is fubar due to the huge amount of fields in the database ?

you need to use the Search for all terms setting in the search and use the word AND between your keywords. It's good enough, pity most of the pictures are gone due to photobuckets changes a few yrs ago.

Search function hoping to be fixed shortly guys. I will say this though...I've always had more success using google. Just search whatever it is you want followed bu the word "imoc". I've been doing this since 2005 with much more success than using the site (sadly).

Depends on what you're searching for. Being able to search for topics started by a specific member is very useful for example.

The other thing with the search issue is the view own posts function is a search function, so I can't go back more than one page when viewing my own posts.
