Looking great, there's no going back with the exhaust now

Is that the 8x10 barrel you are using?
Will be interesting to see this monster in action

Yes mate, it was the biggest option they did.
I think it'll perform well, esp in conjunction with the ice box

Thought it was time for a little update.

Got the exhaust finished off

Image

Image

Image

Image

We got the vent for the bonnet finished off

Image

Image

Got the stage brake fitted

Image

Secured the windows

Image

And got the waste gates routed into the exhaust

Image

Image

Image

They are on slip joints

Image

Image

And made a ghetto cam sensor

Image

So the car us basically done now apart from a couple bits on the water system and fuel system and also the looms.

We plan to have it running end of the month ready for mapping Feb and drag action March/April

Interested to see the numbers, both in terms of dyno figures and 1/4 mile times :D

Awesome build and a pleasure to follow. Certainly doesn't help with my ongoing fight with not building/buying a drag car. One day, it's just how long I resist for! 8-[

Thanks very much for the kind comments.
Anticipation is really growing for it.

It's been a long time in build and I hope it delivers!

Come on, tease us with another update

Are you planning on running a drag series, or just a straight attack on that record time?

Sorry for the silence.. things have been moving along slowly but surely.
Some work has been modifications which have been time consuming, but needed to be done.

So.... the pipe below was far harder to get done than it should have been. I just didn't want to use silicone bends, I wanted a 1 piece bent pipe. Not sure it was worth the cost, but kept me happy...

Image

So after much deliberation I decided I wanted more valve seat pressure for various reasons, so despite the engine being built already, I pulled the valve springs in situ and has some new spring seats made to the exact thickness I wanted in order to get the installed height down and be 1mm off coil bind at full lift.

Image

With that, I decided that the stock buckets might be in danger of wearing prematurely so I ordered a set of supertech buckets with shims.
Baring in mind I was using the stock under bucket shim setup, these are seriously light. Pictures are the supertech vs the Toyota shimless lifter

Image

Image

Then just to be belt and braces, I got the super tech buckets DLC coated. With the cams being so aggressive, I figured that it could do no harm. 7x less friction and harder. You can see the difference in colour between stock and DLC

Image

Once the cams were back in it was time to focus attention to the fuel pump bracket. This was far harder than it needed to be. Making this fit was an utter b1tch. Let's say I'm and expert in strip and rebuild of aeromotive fuel pumps now!!

Just need to run the last couple lines and that's completely done.

Image

Image

Image

After routing all the fuel system, I learned that it wasn't NHRA compatible. It took a bit of thought, but eventually we came up with the plan to run the lines into the tunnel. It wasnt the most simple job, but I think the end result was great.

Image

Image

From inside the tunnel

Image

Image

From inside the box

Image

And final install

Image

Then we sorted the lift pump to prime the mechanical pump. Bosch 044 is total overkill, but I had a used one sat on the shelf, so was easy.

Now it's time for some wiring update as this is really the last job on the car.

After much deliberation i decided to go with a HP powerbox PDM unit. Quote a nice bit of kit...

Image

Benzo, my mate has been making this loom for me in his spare time, whilst doing a masters degree at Oxfor Uni. He's a real star.
Since he had a big Christmas break, he cracked on and after pretty much a weeks solid work, the looms are done apart from connectors, which is my job.

Image

Image

The above is the chassis loom.

Below we branched out the engine loom to where we wanted the wires to go

Image

Image

Image

Benzo then got on with twisting and heat shrinking. I haven't got a finished pic yet, but will post one in the next update.

We then did a trial fit of the chassis loom and it worked out great. Just need to finish PDM wiring

Image

I designed a switch panel with a logo on it...

Image

Image

I'm really happy with it.

Finally - big thanks to opie oils for their sponsorship. Nice to be working with them again!

What sensors are you running on the manifold? Look to big for temp sensors.
