Quick update for anyone still interested in this never ending story...

Peter will have the engine completely built by the end of the month.
I will be dropping the car off to him first week in December for him to install and get everything ready for the MOT.

Mapping - I reckon February.

Should add, never ending story meaning me actually making progress after it being off the road for 3 years, and not Peter having the engine since June. :eye:

I highly recommend Peter Gidden. He's been great with me thus far!

How come it's 6 months to build an engine?

It's not. June was a convenient time for me to drop the engine off, and timescales were agreed for the engine to be built by the end of the year. Which it will be

This would've been finished sooner if I didn't sell tonnes of parts last year to fund a 600bhp Evo (which I then pulled out of), and also if the oil industry didn't crash, which subsequently curtailed my spending :eye:

I'm getting there...

Well, just home after delivering the car to Peter.

A true monumental milestone in what has become an absolute love / hate / want to torch it, 3.5 year long carry on

Engine still isn't built, however that'll be changing very soon

We've agreed a timescale for having it built, installed and running.

Genuinely feel like I can see light at the end of the tunnel.

Right, finally! An interesting update with pictures on what is hopefully nearing an end after a long and frustrating 3.5 years!!!

Summary:

2013 - Blew a piston on my stock Rev3 engine in the September.

2014 - Got married so had no money, or motivation to be honest, to work on the car.

2015 - Spent the year working in Angola (Africa) so had plenty money for the car, so spent thousands on parts, however... I still didn't spend much time with the car. After counting how much money’s worth of MR2 "stuff" I had at the time (approx. £20K), and how little interest I had in the car itself, I decided to sell everything to fund a full blown 600bhp Evo 5 RS track car (£15.5K). Ended up pulling out of the sale (long story!) which takes me in to 2016.

2016 - Dropped 5S engine off at Peter Gidden's in summer, and agreed timescales for the end of the year which gave me time to re-buy lots of parts I sold, and I also change the spec a few times along the way. TImescales slipped a few times for various reasons, which brings me to NOW!!!

ARP main studs in. Main bearings plasti-gauged. Crank in and torqued up. 5S water pump on. OS Giken clutch rebuild kit arrived too!
That's the current state of play

Peter reckons I'll have a sealed long block by Friday

The hawk-eye among you will notice my unusual choice in oil squirters / jets. Other options were considered, including 3SGTE squirters, and although possible, none were achievable in 100% professional manner.
Paraphrasing from the well reputed machine shop we used.

Happy with the work that's been done by Peter, but still have this horrible gut feeling something's not going to play ball when it comes to turning the key / mapping... I think because this has been off the road so long and I've had so many ups and downs with it, it almost feels wrong to think positively about it.
More sleepless nights ahead

Nice update. Noticed you have a different exhaust manifold, sure it was a full race before, looks like a TTE version? Got any close ups of the porting for the waste gate? Interested to see if it's done the same way as mine.

Thanks mate. Good to see someone still interested in this build

I did have a GTX35 with a Full Race manifold (GeorgeL's old setup), but I sold it all to fund a 600bhp Evo 5 track car :eye:
Obviously didn't buy the Evo in the end, so everything was sold in vain unfortunately.

But yes, now have a GT3076r with TTE manifold.
