Shane's Red Rev 3 TTop 2jz vvti 6 speed manual

Post by shane34 »

So im back.

Been looking around for months for a project car, was tempted to go RX7 but the 10k outlay with bodywork required seems expensive.

So ive picked up a rev 3 NA Auto,
Looking at its mot history it has been well kept, something went on in 2006 probably when it was imported? Mileage was reset.

So the car is pristine, underside look amazing considering its age, no wax oil or any other protection has been applied. The bodywork had a full respray last year. Again this is extremely good.

Plans.

Straight line monster! And to look great!

I have a plan to remove everything from the car thats not required, this will no doubt be a year or 2 build, however its going to be enjoyable as its my 1st opportunity to create my own version rather than adding or adapting from previous set ups.

Engine wise will be decided, i have a plan but cannot say yet.
Gear box etc will follow on from engine. But i like displacement so no k swaps or 5sgte.

Currently have acquired wheels.
BBSlm 9inch fronts 10 rears.

Items required

Race fuel tank with bladder

Stage one.
Set up work shop
Remove everything from car and plan engine.

So ive updated the title as its fairly official now.

Ive not released any videos and only a couple of pictures as teasers.

Im planing on making the 2jz run about 700 or 800 whp.

Will end up mainly a straight line car, however looking at a 50/50 weight distribution on the mr2.

Engine and gearbox are mounted. Currently fabrication on exhaust, front mount intercooler, pipework, got part due by the end of the week.

Once i work out how to upload pictures again on here ill add some

Upgraded Gearbox is here, clutch still on order.
Fuel cell in the making.

Uploading photos is a chore for sure. 100% for it for us to be able to see photos though

Services like Imgur make it easy. You can generate codes for a whole batch of images in a few clicks and just copy paste them over.

Car is still in the making work has really got in the way sadly. Maybe in march i can pick this back up properly.

Need to get a loom manufactured, unsure on the best way to go as yet, i may end up striping the dash and removing every thats not needed maybe removing all the wiring except for the final bits like lights etc, not sure how relevant the oem dash or heater controls will be.

would definitely like this car as light as possible. Ive inquired about fiberglass doors, bonnet, the trd kit is fiberglass so oem wings removal will save a bit of weight, front and rear bumpers are lighter i believe so a bit more there.

Purchased a second set of bbs lm wheels, 8j and 9j 18s, so ill probably mix and match the 8j with the 10j from the other set. 9 inch wheels on the fronts on a mr2 make the tryes look stretched due to side wall restrictions and trye options. However thats a minor detail.

Managed to use some corner weights, quite happy as 95% of the cars components are in place. Main thing missing was oil and coolant.

Not much to update.

Getting closer to sending it off for wiring and mapping. Still not sure when, still to decide on ECU.

Purchased a brand new 3.4 stroker gte bottom end, SRD are now putting a brand new vvti gte head with the upgrades they normally do, bit of exhaust porting aswell. The engine is built for 1200 hp. Not sure ill ever be here but lets see.

Will like to aim for end of summer but work has been the biggest hold up.
