Re: Rev5 Front Pipe?

Thanks for that, well I've just been underneath the car again and whilst mine does NOT have a flexi pipe I still think its custom. The flanges on the pipe and sports cat are at rotated 90 deg to what they are on the mongoose if that makes sense. Whats even worse is that the 2 flanges on the sports c...

Re: Rev5 Front Pipe?

Can no one shed any light on this? I just want to confirm mine isn't OEM before I go and buy one :|

Re: Big steering issue!

Ok well thats the tyres ruled out. I'd be inclined to say its something on the rear. Although 4 wheel alignment is always a good thing to do I dont think that will be the problem. I'm not sure about the spax springs but I run them too so can go an have a look. Other than that, you've got the suspens...

Re: Big steering issue!

Does it sway when doing a constant speed? Or is it under acceleration or braking too? Sounds like some sort of worn bush on the rear, but could be any of the suspension components really. What tyres are you running? Small chance its that but my car came with brand new Toyo T1R tyres on 17" whee...

Rev5 Front Pipe?

Can anyone tell me if the OEM rev5 front pipe has a flexi in it? I just went to fit my mongoose exhaust as I currently have a horrific 5" tip custom backbox and sports cat, and the flanges were miles out! It looks like the front pipe is a fabricated item (no flexi) and has the flange welded in ...

Cheers man, I'l have a look around it tomorrow. I don't think it has any aftermarket ECU or chips but you never know!

EGR Delete done correctly?

So I've been mooching around in the engine bay of the recently purchased Mk2 and came across this EGR setup. Has this been blocked off correctly as it looks a bit bodged? Also, what could the microswitch arrangment be that is fixed to the EGR blank plate? It has 2 spade connectors and a contact piec...

Re: MR2 PRICES.

I agree with CalMac, they're still a bargain for what they are. Everytime I've bought one of my MR2's I've had to pay about £200-£300 more on average every year that goes by, but its just something you have to except. I recently just sold my Integra DC2 for £4300 and I paid less than £3000 for it ab...

Re: Mk2 or Mk3 for track work?

Will do! I've never ran Spax before either. They're fixed height dampers but from what I can tell at the moment they feel ok on the road, similar to coilovers when they're set to soft/medium setting. Think I'l stick with them for 1 trackday atleast and see how they get on.

Re: Mk2 or Mk3 for track work?

Well, after test driving various cars I've ended up with a tidy rev5 NA mk2. I drove another stock Mk3 and it felt great but I just didn't want the car. I think I made the right choice though. The car seems all solid and the previous owner had fitted Spax adjustable dampers and springs, EBC discs an...

Yeah agreed it works so well.

Sadly the 2ZZ car I test drove has just sold so a mk2 is back on the cards now anyway! Going in circles here! #-o

Re: Mk2 or Mk3 for track work?

My god some of those black ones with wide bronze wheels look brilliant! Thanks for the inspiration :thumleft: I'l have a talk with the seller today. At the end of the day its not mega money, worst case I don't get on with it then I can always sell it on.

Thanks again for all the advice.

Re: Mk2 or Mk3 for track work?

So I managed to test drive a 2ZZ Engine swapped Mk3 roadster. It seemed like a very capable car, engine characteristics similar to my Integra (Which has now been sold!) and handled as I expected... a stock Elise with added bodyroll. However I really couldn't gel with the look of the thing, and the f...

Re: Mk2 or Mk3 for track work?

So taking into account all of the above, there is a 2ZZGE Mk3 roadster that I may be viewing on Sunday. Although its a bit more than I would have liked to pay for a track car, it obviously has the additional power the mk3 lacked, but with all the benefits. I'm also guessing as it has the 2zz engine ...

Re: Mk2 or Mk3 for track work?

Alex, since you're in Warwickshire you can't be too far away from Rogue Motorsport. We've got more than a dozen MR2 Championship cars here and I'd be happy to show you around and talk through the pros and cons of each. One thing worth considering if you're building a track car is to build it to MR2...

Re: Mk2 or Mk3 for track work?

Ah I didn't know that. On that basis then, I take it a with manifold, coilovers, etc and stripped down the Mk2 even further would for sure be the quicker car? How do you find the gearing on the two cars? I've always been under the impression that the mk3 box would feel alot shorter than the mk2? I h...

Re: Mk2 or Mk3 for track work?

The pre-cat fix looks simple enough. After having a good read of your thread Pete I'm now swaying towards the Mk2 again, purely for the same reason you did as I'd like to compete in something like the SprintSeries. Or if I felt that way inclined, drop a 3SGTE motor in and enter the MSV Trackday Trop...

Re: Mk2 or Mk3 for track work?

Wow, thanks for the quick replies. Swaying me more towards a Mk3 now. Looking at the MR2 Championship lap records, there is hardly anything between the Mk3 and Mk2 which is a bit of a surprise as the power/weight ratio is similar for both cars, but the Mk3 has the advantage of 200kg lighter so I'd a...

Mk2 or Mk3 for track work?

I'm sure this has probably been covered a few times somewhere, but I'm looking to get back into an MR2 and start doing trackdays again. I'm not interested in any of the turbo cars, its either between the Mk2 tintop N/A (rev2-5) or a Mk3 Roadster. It used to seem quite a straight forward decision whe...
