Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Head skimmed every time on HG change?

Costs £25 to have head skimmed.....Worth the risk of pulling it back down again? I know I wouldn't risk it.

Re: Brand new forged build problems! Please help!

Another thought,

Some forged rods don't go too well with JE Pistons. There is not enough clearance for the rod. If the builder has not got this clearance sorted, you will have trouble turning it over.

You don't say what pistons/rods you are using, but just a thought.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] 400bhp guide??

A set of forged pistons.
A steel hg. Stock Rev 3.
Bigger injectors.
Bigger turbo.
Walbro pump.
Good intercooler.
Exhaust.
Aftermarket ECU.
Uprated clutch.

Thats it. Rods are good for 635bhp. Proven by me. Cams good for same.

Nice one bud. Does it idle any better? Any running improvement?

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] TPS calibration?

That's what I am hoping should happen. Set it and then reset it. The ecu should then see the new reading as idle and not hunt. You can always mark the TPS and return it to the original position if it goes boobs up :thumleft:

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] TPS calibration?

Yes, you should see a low percentage at idle relative to the throttle plate position. Not 100% of the reading, but around 10%-15% should be about right. You can loosen the screws on the tps, and rotate it slightly to set it. I would then carry out a hard reset (remove battery) to allow the ecu to re...

Re: Exhaust idea...

You won't fit 2 silencers in that small gap.

I had to modify all the stat housing just to fit the 4" silencer in there.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Worth fitting a ct20turbo on my rev 2?

Sorry, Speed reading. just seen it come up a few times in replies.

Honestly, I would not go anymore than .9 on the stock bottom end. Rev 3 HG or not.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Worth fitting a ct20turbo on my rev 2?

Why the obsession with the hks F con? It's poo. If you are playing the power/boost game, the HG is not the only weak link on the Rev 1/2 or 3. Piston ringlands crack on these engines for fun, I have stripped a good few, and I am sure Peter and Luke have seen this too, running stock boost and ringlan...

I wonder if hat has taken a crash and been patched up? One side de-locked, and those wheels look like cheap replacements.... Could be wrong.. Just my opinion.. Maybe yours has taken a crash and been badly patched up? Those wheels look like cheap replacements, no fogs in the front, dodgy mesh....Cou...

Re: Turbo advice pros and cons

It might be worth PMing Rash on here. It might not of been him that picked up the email, maybe someone that works for him instead that does not know much.

The car has been for sale a while, but it's a choice car. Not a Fiesta or similar. I have bought a few cars from Rash with no issues at all.

Re: Turbo advice pros and cons

As above, Rash is a sound bloke. :thumleft: YVS build cracking engines, he's the chap that built my old 600bhp motor so all good there too!

To build the spec on that car would cost double, so a good buy if you like the bodykit etc.

Not seen the car personally, but usually Rash's stuff is very good.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] TPS calibration?

The WOT/idle reading is irrelevant to your diagnosis if the issue is within a rev range. The idle reading is incorrect, it should show a low percentage for the throttle plate being slightly open.

Have you monitored it from start to finish? Any sudden drops?

Re: Turbo advice pros and cons

Performance wise, the Turbo cars are a differant world to the n/a so worth the change no doubt. Price wise.... These old cars now don't have a value to go on, they are only worth what a buyer will pay for them. If you as a buyer like the car at £4500, and feel you would pay that, that's it's worth.....
