Re: Super Edition
5 meeelion! A fair whack for it. I won't know the full cost until it's here so I'd prefer to keep it my business for now. So I have some humble pie to eat after some more research. The white-over-gold SE was the 1988 model, a run of 300. The midnight blue SE was the final 1989 run-out model and had ...

Re: Super Edition
Nope, optional on all, but I think anyone buying the SE in Japan were 'option box tickers'. No point flogging a non-existent horse here

Re: Super Edition
Cheers guys. Spec is the same, just the colour difference. Only unknown is
LSD or not, which was an additional option regardless of colour. Have only ever seen one other two-tone SE.
I used pacific auto, not the cheapest but less chance of being ripped off.
Cheers,
Jon

Re: Super Edition
Only the nasty old auction pics, but the exporter does post-sale walk-around video's of the car so if it's not too embarrassing I will post that up when it's done. Has all the SE stuff and not too many mods (Watanabe's 8) ). From the auction sheet it sounds like the Recaro's will need a bit of help ...

Super Edition
I have just become the owner of a Super Edition, white & gold two-tone, in Japan
Will need a few bits (Mr. Woods, I will be in touch!) but hopefully nothing major.
Now for the lonnng wait for the boat! Hopefully I can use it for a couple of months before the winter kicks in.
Cheers,
Jon

The circle is a balancing mark. You see crank pulleys with 3 or 4 of these so I guess they were balanced up by hand by Toyota.

Re: does anyone know this s/c for sale?
One of my old ones, but not seen it in years and has passed through a few owners since then I think. Was a decent, solid car back then, and appears to have been looked after. Not much else I can say.

btw the external wastegate is the 'bell' looking thing you describe

Re: Car sounds like a tractor after speedbump
Sounds like you have an aftermarket setup with a 'dump' pipe or 'screamer' pipe depending on which you prefer. If the dump pipe is pumping exhaust off boost (like at idle) then I would suspect the external wastegate has either died or you've dislodged a vac pipe or two from it.

To be honest I would just rub it back, fibreglass it and spray with some good anti-rust treatment.

Re: R/R Graph
Agreed 11 is good, 12:1 gives good power but no margin for safety really. 10.4:1 is a little low so is costing a little bit in outright power, but is also very safe. Most 3SGTE's on standard ECU's run <11:1.

Re: 4AGE 16v Cam Gears, Valve springs, Cams
Aren't those just standard cam gears that have been slotted and hks timing wheels inserted? Very common to do it that way in Japan and work fine, I think from the time before full aftermarket cam gears were easily available.
