It's 540 miles from my house to West Mersea + a ferry journey. Also don't have a current MOT. Being driving it all summer but not sure if it's ready for that trip. Maybe next year. Flight cost only £50.

MK1 CO2 emissions anyone
Does anyone know what the CO2 emissions are for an MR2 MK1. We have gone very Green in Ireland. When I imported my MK1A two years ago, the VRT (Vehicle Registration Tax ) was 20% on the Irish market price of the car. This is basically an import duty & a way for the government to generate more ...

I borrowed an air gun which used a lot of air from my little compressor but removed them without any problem.

Re: Poss problem with battery & starter/ignition relay?
I remember having a clicking sound when starting a MKII Escort many years ago. It turned out that the heavy cable going on to the back of the starter motor wasn't making a good connection. I took it off, cleaned the flat connection at the end of the cable with sandpaper & also around the point w...

Re: Restoration .....56k Beware NEW PICS
Well done. It looks fabulous. Like you, I can arc weld but have never had much luck with the Mig. Will have to learn as I need to do a good bit of welding next winter.
One question - how did you join the inner & outer arch - did you spot weld it?

Re: Touching up with aerosol
Thanks for the replies. I know it ain't the way to go but I'm sick of looking at it in the garage & want to get a few miles in over the summer. Putting a few quid away so hopefully do a proper job over next winter. Tony, I haven't got around to welding in your panels yet - just masking the rust ...

Touching up with aerosol
Anyone got some helpful tips on spraying with an Aerosol & blending it in to the existing paint. I need to repair the rear wheel arch properly on my 1985 MK1 MR2 at a later date. I have the repair panel (thanks Jinxy) which I will need to weld in next winter but for now I need to put it thru th...

Re: Windscreen price
I priced one in March 2007 when I was looking for a MK1 & the local winscreen replacement centre in Southern Ireland quoted me 250. I subsequentally bought a different car so never followed it up.

Well done on your new toy. I have a 1985 MK1A on a C reg from October 1985 & it looks identical to mine except mine has the older MK1A alloys. Mine's red also.

Wasn't there a company in Germany, something like Toyotaheaven, who used to sell repair panels on Ebay. Not sure of the quality but they were quite cheap.

I spent more than an hour sewing it in. First time I ever sewed anything & it worked out perfectly. Wish I'd thought of contact adhesive.

Re: Knocking Steering Rack!
:D Thanks for the info, Spudgun. I went at the rack yesterday. Firstly removed the crossmember underneath the rack - I soaked the 4 studs with WD40 for about a week first. Before I started I hit them quite hard with a hammer to shock them & removed them with an air gun. All came off without shea...

Thanks for all the replies.
This may be a stupid question - When I am winding it back in, do I need to loosen the bleed nipple?
Thanks,
Tim

Re: Brake help required
Thanks, Un1eash.
I will probably have to grind off the nipple alright. How important is it to wind the piston all the way back & then out 180 degrees.
I started bleeding from the back left then back right then front left & finally front right.
Thanks,
Tim
