[Mk2] [Turbo] Alternator, rev3 turbo , removal and repair

First of all does anyone know where you can buy a replacement rectifier for the rev 3 turbo alternator? Secondly a couple of comments on getting the alternator off a rev 3 turbo as there seems to be a lot of variation between different revisions. > Taking the bracket off and bringing it up the OSR o...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] result of not having an oil change

On a turbo it can be very bad. The oil feed to the turbo is prone to clogging up and can starve it of lubrication. Obviously you'll get all the other problems like increased wear on the bearings, cams and piston rings. Changing the oil is the best preventative maintainence you can possibly do, if it...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] 1994 Rev 3: Just the Odometer has stopped working?

If you have de-limiter you'll probably find it behind the speedo cluster. The speedo sensor is on the back of the gear box, near the rear engine mount, that could also be the problem or a wire in between. If the needle is still moving it's almost definately a fault with the cluster.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Getting v P!55ED off!!!!

Sounds to me as if it was never bled properly by the garage. There's a second bleed valve on a heater pipe near the top of the spare wheel. You need two lengths of tubing to make sure the pressure is the same in the heater system as the radiator. It takes quite a bit of time to do properly and the h...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] catch can

The way thats setup you might get oil accumulating at a low point in the inlet pipe but the air flow should prevent it building up too much. The stock can on the rev 3 avoids that, oil either drips back into the pcv outlet or falls into the catch can. You would definitely want to avoid the chance of...

Yeah i think you've got a point there, my last set of toyos (bought by the previous owner) were fitted in the back of a van and the fronts weren't balanced properly. I never had the rears checked but wouldn't be surprised if they were off too.. Looks like i'll be ordering from camskill then, thanks ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Helicoiling exhaust manifold stud

I had a right pain with these, loads snapped off. I managed to get them out by filing the shaft down to a square taper and hammering a brake spanner on the end. I had to weld a nut on one of them.

[Mk2] [Turbo] Toyo Proxes T1Rs from Camskill?

I've got a full set of Proxes T1-R's, the rears are getting close to illegal so i'm looking for a new pair but don't want to change make until the fronts are worn down. The best i've found (by about £20!) is camskill.co.uk who want £151.40 delivered for a set of 2 in 225/50/15. I'm gonna get them fi...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] pistons and compression ratios

When i rebuilt my engine i used 8.8:1 pistons (same as rev1-2) in a rev 3 engine which usually has 8.5:1 Theoretically that gives me an extra 3.5% increase in efficiency, giving a very rough gain of ~8BHP for nothing; the downside being it would be more difficult to run higher than stock boost witho...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] pistons and compression ratios

i may sound thick but can someone please explain why you would choose a higher compression piston over a lower compression. ive read that higher compression engines suffer from detonation (knocking) more. cheers  Engine efficiency is directly related to compression ratio. Higher compressio...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Engine stripped and problem located

Hi Andy I had this too - no loss of power, but loads of oil loss and zero compression in 4 (the ringland had broken up) Have you got any thoughts on the cause though? Whilst I replaced pistons, i see quite a few ringland failures (both here and on GT4 forums) but most people focus on fixing the sym...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] oil consumption, sooty exhaust!

It's possible to change the stem seals without taking the head off, you can use compressed air injected through the spark plug socket to hold the valves in. Certain nutters have also filled the cylinder with string and then pulled it out afterwards!

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] conecting rod bearing and main bearing(orrible pics added)

The BGBs pretty good on this, there's some good tips like putting oil under the bolts before you torque them to get the right tension. They've also got big sections on checking everything's in spec. I got a set of these for about £30 from ebay.com: http://www.diycinema.co.uk/imghost/3sgte/BB/16.jpg ...
