i know on some fords you had to have key in the ignition and key turned to first click to remove steering wheels, as steering lock would hold it on just a thought ive never removed a steering wheel from an mr2 so cant really comment but just a thought.
common problem the relay can sometimes be fixed by flicking ignition on and off, happened to me twice in 3 years, could try relay fist as a cheap go, other than that might be a faulty pump.
its taken me over 3 years to get my car the way it is now, was totally standard when i got it but i know what your saying about money, i have wife and 2 kids so my budget is tight but you get there in the end, ive spent nearly £4000 buying and doing up my mr2 but cars are my only vice.
ive since put led bulbs in and done the 4 brake light mod, much better ive held off changing to rev 3 lights for 3 years but gave in, could not resist it in the end and needed to be more modern, my 2 was looking old and had a well deserved makeover a few months ago black roof, black mirrors much mor...

thay just bang out with a few hard hits from a hammer, never done one on an mr2 but if you turn disc to a place where there is space to bang through you should be ok, then new stud goes in from back and has splined sides which hold it in, you then use a wheel nut open one not a standard nut and tigh...

i take it the front section is welded to inner wing, and not just tacked like in picture as that tack wouldnt last 5 mins with some hard driving or a track day i reckon, i think thay must work though these brace its got to help surely.
