theres a lot of talk about it all on most of the forums. Theres a thread on the us oc that claims to have cut open a number of blocks and found the 5s to be the best option. So far I've only found a few 3s options but can't seem to get hold of a 5s.

The other day I thought my headgasket had gone when the water temps suddenly went to 130deg so I checked the plugs and found one was noticably wetter than the others. In the end I took the head off to change the HG but when it was off I found that combustion chambers 1-2-3 were quite badly damaged w...
I've not herd of them skipping a tooth but that doesn't sound right. As for removing the nut, I set mine up with a ratchet/breaker bar on it such that the the end of the bar was resting on the ground. Then a quick flick of the starter motor and the car did all the hard work :) I doubt the BGB would ...
As above really. I'm thinking of changing from a dep 2 to a blueflame as my dep2 is all but dead but i'm worried that it might make it louder. I'm already well over the limit for any trackdays and want to make it as quiet as pos.

Im not 100% sure what you mean by the hardened collar. Are you referring to the collets that hold the upper retainer onto the valve, or do you mean the lower valve retained (shim that sits between the spring and the head)? Either way, for the top of the valve to drop requires all of the load in the...
I did have a lot of ticking but couldnt tell if it was due to tappets or a blowing exhaust so I wouldnt class that as conclusive either way. Also, I had the car on a dyno in this condition and it hit the same power figure as before so Im confident that its nothing as serious as a bent valve/br...
I've just checked my valve clearances and found the following: (Spec = 0.15-0.25 for Inlet, 0.2-0.3 for Exhaust) Pos. In Ex 1 13 97 2 11 17 3 16 18 4 12 22 5 16 30 6 15 22 7 20 24 8 10 21 Obviously a few of those are slightly out of spec but the main concern is of course Ex1. I wondered if it could ...
Does anyone have the part number for a rev1 ex manifold to cyl head gasket?
Im looking for the 2 (or is it 3) layer version that comes in two halves (i.e. each gasket covers two cylinders).
Cheers,

I think 10% is their standard trade discount.
I worked at a local engineering company so used that to get the discount.
Hopefully Ill be able to get the same here but just wondered if anyone had anything better set up.

I used to get a discount at Toyota in Sussex but have just moved to Northampton and wondered if anyone was able to get a decent discount at a Toyota near here? In Brighton, they were fairly happy to offer 10% off but some places seem to give 25% discount. Anyway I need to get some parts so thought I...
i can't really decide based on that pic as the car colour is hard to see.
It's a nice shot of the car just not ideal for choosing wheel colour imo.
I would probably go with charcoal though as i've seen silver cars with black/dark wheels and think that looks really good

hopefully it wont take long to sort out but a recent change of job has lead to me moving up to Northampton now so Guildford runs might be a bit far off. I'll be nice and close to most of the car shows though so will have to make an appearance there instead this year. i dont think i've physically met...
Having moved house i wasn't able to look at this but i've been out and stripped it back only to find this: http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb304/jwingers/DSCF5836.jpg http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb304/jwingers/DSCF5835.jpg Both mounting bolts completely sheared off! In fact on closer inspe...
I had the same with my std set-up when I fitted 17x8 fronts. The difference is probably down to manufacturing tolerances. It will never be exactly the same left to right.
I just put 3mm spacers all around and it was fine.

yeah if you can get it to do the same again while you're data logging then it should be obvious what's going on.
More to the point, turning on the data logger is a surefire way to make sure that the problem does re-occur
