Re: [Mk2] [Generic] Talking to Tony (WIM),.. not that important the wheel stagger
I have driven my car on many wheel combinations, including 7.5 x 17 all round, I currently have 8.5x17 front and 9.5 x 17 rear, BUT the best combintion for pure handling by miles was 7.5 x 16 front and 8.5 x 16 rear. The same size all round doesnt turn the car into an oversteery monster but if your ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Mk2 Turbo - sub 1100kg - No carbon - No glass fibre
First off I stated I had 'only' a quarter tank of fuel and Jonb said he had 3/4 so no ones hiding anything. And being good friends with Jon we have already talked about it, his is lighter in some areas and mine in others, so with his tank full and mine my car is probably 20-25kg lighter, which consi...

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] Talking to Tony (WIM),.. not that important the wheel stagger
All I can say is if you want the maximum from your car and it to handle as well as it could you need a proper set up with correctly fitted tyres, just sticking some wide ones on the back on the same sized rim as the front is not the same as fitting them on correctly sized rims, they just wont work p...

If you want to be that pedantic 3/4 of a tank = 29kg
So 1138.5 in total.
So 1138.5 in total.

1/4 of a tank mate, I thought mine would be marginally lighter than yours, I have taken a lot more little bits off than you but you have mega light wheels and small brakes, hence all the stuff I said above about a 1000kg car.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Mk2 Turbo - sub 1100kg - No carbon - No glass fibre
It had all fluids and 1/4 tank of fuel, plus like I say big wheels, road tyres, all standard panels, no Cf or GRP with the exception of the mirrors and it was 1109kg. It had only the drivers seat too, its a GTS coupe, so not a t-bar too. another 100kg out of it and its a sub 1000kg car, pointless sa...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Mk2 Turbo - sub 1100kg - No carbon - No glass fibre
I have one of the rear hubs removed at the moment to replace a wheel bearing, but will take some pics when its back together. Definitely worth it in terms of performance, not only in straight line but the handling is much better and obviously you have less weight to stop so your easier on the brakes...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Mk2 Turbo - sub 1100kg - No carbon - No glass fibre
Hi Matt, being pretty aggresive with bits you don't need, don;t get me wrong the car is a total pain on the road, ive removed all sound deadening, removed window mechanisms, removed brackets from behind the dash etc etc, so the thing is extremely noisey. I have also removed a lot of wiring (which is...

[Mk2] [Turbo] Mk2 Turbo - sub 1100kg - No carbon - No glass fibre
Ok, well thats a bit of a lie, it was actually 1109.5kg. But having just weighed my car with very accurate scales to measure the corner weights I was quite pleased with this weight, especially as I have some very heavy bits on the car, and I haven't spent any money on any weight saving bits (with th...

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] Talking to Tony (WIM),.. not that important the wheel stagger
True up to a point, but remember whatever you do with geometry theres always going to be 60 % (ish) of the weight over the rear wheels, so you need wider rubber, which in turn needs wider wheels (if you want the tyres to work properly). You can make the car handle how you want with geometry BUT to d...

Re: Best trackday harness for a Mk2 ??
Easy kids! Its all relative, a 4 point harness will be ok, a 6 point will be better, I had 4 point 2 inch wide harnesses in mine and they were fine until I put some 6 point 3 inch wide jobbies in, which transpired were much more comfortable, (doubtless safer) and didn't ride up my body during a sess...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Over 200mph on a std gearbox???
I remember that guy in the sierra, in the wet, no seatbelt, one hand on the wheel, hilarious!
yes you can hit 200mph, with an st165 final drive ratio and moderately large wheels (235/45x17) and a rev limit of around 7750.

2 jaw puller, the lump hammer approach won't do your wheel bearings any favours.

Mike,
You can have the bonnet, I didn't pay much for it and was only going to carve it up for an aero project, I just don't have time at the moment so its yours.

Re: [All] [Turbo] ST 205 Chargecooler with a Difference
Well I got mine from work (I work at Triumph), so bought it as scrap for a fiver, even though it was brand new, there all over the place here! I was thinking of trying a new one of our new 1800cc twin, as its a bit bigger and has the entry and exit pipes ina better place, and then on the other hand ...

Re: [All] [Turbo] ST 205 Chargecooler with a Difference
Ive used a Triumph Sprint radiator on my CC for over 3 years now, its ideal, aluminium so lightweight and the capability to cool a 120bhp motorbike (rather than a 40bhp Fiat), so more than man enough for a CC.
