Are they 17's though? I have 8.5 inch wide 17's on the front of mine, have had to significantly roll the arches and fit 225/35 tyres, they go under the arches ok with 235's but you can't get any decent steering lock, which is a bit dodgy!!!
Its a bit of a risk!
Indeed the rainsports are soft, nad them on my Turbo trackcar, after literally 2 luke warm laps they had turned to mush, unfortunately they were on the front of my MR2 and endowed it with enormous understeer, I think you were there that day Jon as I remember moaning to you as you were just sailing a...
Jon?
Myself and Jon have been trying to organize a test day for ages, but with one thing and another its just fell through, comparing good road tyres with track tyres, maybe one day!
I would go for the v70's too, heard good things about them, don't think they fall apart in the cold weather either..... Just another thought, I agree that a good track tyre will be faster than a road tyre, but I tend to use part worn road tyres, not Nankangs but PS2's REO55's etc, as a road tyre tha...
A 205/50 will open up some more posibilities I think, don't get too hung up on rolling radius, its not the be all and end all!!!
Oh, and thanks for pointing out the general condition of my motor Andy!
£100 is ok, how much is a minor shunt due to brake fade?
Greenstuff pads are absolute c**p too, I swapped mine for standard Toyota pads which were much better!
Make sure your caliper pistons all work too, the lower one often seizes.
Ive run my track MR2 on just about every combo going, at the moment I have 8.5x17 fronts and 9.5x17 rears... but for the best handling I found was on 7x16 front and 8x16 rear with 205/55 front tyres and 225/50 rears. I know the profiles dont give me the correct rolling radius before anyone moans but...
2. HKS Super Drager with and without de-cat - Donington quiet day - 98db
3. XS Power Twin exit exhaust with XS power DP (Which I was amazed at!) - Donington quiet day - 98db
Used these at other tracks too but Donington was the quietest.
I understand where your coming from, don't get me wrong, id love to take my boy out. As it happens my Saab was only £2k, so not expensive and has a 5 star safety rating.... In that which test the Graco seat (the one with the cup holders) came bottom and it was in the 'not really very safe' group, an...
Reh, Not having a go or anything of course, its just a Mk1 or Mk2 MR2 has virtually no protection, I wouldn't put my lad in a small car like a Corsa or something either, ive seen how an MR2 would crumple in a crash and I wouldn't take the risk, thats all, doesn't matter whose fault it is in a crash,...
I don't know if i'm an old fuddy duddy but i'd never put my little boy in my MR2, especially a Mk1!
I have no doubt he would love it but it just seems mad, which is why I bought a 5 star safety rated Saab and a Jag with 8 airbags, must just be me!
Tom, You will think I am a rooting tooting cowboy for this.... I set my geometry with a piece of string, then I tweeked it over several trackdays until I got it to do what I wanted. I like a really planted front end but like Jon says I have a very wayward rear (oooer), whereas most people would hate...
Hi,
I have a close ratio gear set, except the 5th gear is standard so there is a massive drop in revs from 4th to 5th, the ratios would be ideal if I could put a standard 4th gear where 5th is, anyone know if this would be possible?
Cheers
Simon
A 4 point 2 inch wide belt is the absolute minimum you should go for, generally 3 inch belts are much more comfortable and safe in an accident (which is the point surely), also a 5 or 6 point belt stops the belt riding up over the session, again making them safer and better for bracing under braking...
I am about to order a clutch and fly from the states, so hopefully wont get stung at customs, even if I did with an extra £35 its still a damn sight cheaper than it is over here, rip off britain, don't ge me started!!
Worrying though, Ive always though Mk2 to be pretty much rust free, theres been a few popped up recently though that are rotten, our own Mk2 track car recently bombed its MOT through structural rust...
