Yes I think Halfords sell it and yes it is an easy job to do. Tom

Re: TOTB4 - Who wants to be involved?
Neil, Have just got back from Powerhouse. Never heard of them or been there before. I had been tipped off that he had a Mk1 Supercharger engine (4AGZE). Turns out it isn't, it's just got Supercharger cam covers on it, never mind! Bri was working on your car and I had a good look round it. Your car l...

Re: MK1 cylinder head
Yes, it's reasonably well covered in the Haynes manual.
Do you have broadband, if you do I may be able to send you some pictures, info etc this evening.
If you do have broadband PM me with your email address. I am reasonably busy but would try to send you something tonight

Re: TOTB4 - Who wants to be involved?
Neil, If it really is that bad let me know. If you need a complete 3S-GTE engine there is a second hand one available in Derby. It's currently at a scrap yard but has been purchased by someone who simply intends to sell it on. I know this because I have bought the rear anti-roll bar and fitted it to...

Re: TOTB4 - Who wants to be involved?
Jonno, Really sorry to hear about your misfortune. Was just about to PM you to ask if I go for a spin with you in your Mk2 turbo sometime (I am in Ripley). I have never been in one and I expect the performance of your car is mind blowing. If you need a hand at weekends to rebuild the engine I would ...

Re: MK1 cylinder head
is there a good how to for it anywhere? Funny you should mention that. I think the Toyota instructions are a bit vague. So I have taken loads of pictures and intend to write it up. But mine is a Supercharger so I expect there's quite a lot of differences and it may confuse you. There's nothing comp...

Re: mk1 tracking/alignment question
Ok, all you need is some chalk line (or thin nylon string), some spacers and a steel rule. I don't know the thickness of spacers you will need but I am guessing at 20mm (it just needs to clear the bodywork - you will see what I mean in a minute). Cut 4 off 20mm x 20mm spacers (wood or something). Ti...

Re: mk1 tracking/alignment question
Ok Steven, just wanted to make sure I wasn't wasting my time. I feel sorry for you for what has happened and will help. It's really not a nice experience when your pride and joy gets damaged. Personally I would just take it and get it aligned properly. But if you are really skint there is a check yo...

Re: mk1 tracking/alignment question
If you really can't afford a proper alignment check and want to fix it / check it yourself, reply here and I'll do you a quick sketch of a simple check you can do that is surprisingly accurate. (Really should be repairing my own car). Tom

Re: MK1 cylinder head
I'm just doing mine on my SC at the moment. It's a bit of a pain because of the amount of stuff you need to remove. And there's also the unexpected broken manifold studs. I've done this type of work on cylinder heads before and it takes ages. He's done loads of work, but there's still loads to do at...

Hang on, just re-read your post properly. Take it back and tell him to put the steering wheel straight. He'll have to adjust both rods. It's just a shortcut to only adjust one side.

Re: mk1 tracking/alignment question
It just sounds like the tracking has been adjusted without the steering wheel being straight. Did he just adjust one side? If you really can't afford to have it done professionally and can be bothered you can put this right yourself as long as you do it carefully. Assuming the tracking is now correc...

I was quoted £79.48 from Toyota for an OEM set for my SC yesterday.

Re: Uk's
Steven, That doesn't look too bad. I am sure it will mend as long as you haven't damaged the suspension mounting points (doubt it) Why don't you just mend it mechanically until you sort out the claim? I really would get it checked out and fixed before driving it again. If the trackrod end fails and ...

Re: Uk's
I shall let the insurance company deal with it. I'm stressing to them the fact I want my car repaired too...not written off. the car is quite rare being a Sherwood Toning. So I have my fingers crossed. Steven, Sorry to be the bearer of (potentially) bad news, but once it is established that it wasn...

Re: Uk's
Hi Steven, Just edited my previous post. Here's the edited bit anyway: On the plus side it's a company vehicle, so this guy's manager may not be too bothered with such a small claim. If you keep politely phoning his manager he may just get fed up and say get it sorted. On a hire car situation you mu...

Re: Uk's
Steven, Really sorry about the news. But if you hit him side on surely this is proof he had just pulled out as you were passing. If he was fully on the road and you had ploughed into the back of him it would be more difficult to prove. So the only question is lights? What time was it, how dark was i...

Mk1 SC - E51 Gearbox - Bearing references and sizes?
Has anyone rebuilt an E51 gearbox? I am after the bearing references or sizes. Just need four bits of info on each bearing: type, bore, od and width (eg taper roller, bore = 25mm, od = 50mm, width = 25mm) I expect buying these bearings from Toyota will be a horrendous expense. If I can get reference...

Lauren, Tom's Tips - Rear anti-roll bar mounts You don't need to fab anything up if you don't want to. As you know I have been messing around with my rear anti-roll bar. I have also been pratting around Albert Loom's (huge scrapyard in Derby)measuring up anti-roll bars from all sorts of different ca...
