Re: [Mk2] [Generic] Gearboxes

It's a shame to rip a nice MR2 apart if it's usable though, just to put its still beating heart into a spaceframe lol. And while £1300 is a good price for a tubby, it's currently a tad high for my plans which are somewhat more grounded (hence the original aim to go with the GE for a while). I have s...

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] Gearboxes

So it really does make no sense buying and then swapping for me it seems. If the hubs etc were only needed because of relative lengths like track width changes but would bolt up it'd be OK but if they're different splines etc then it's a no go and I need the tubby complete effectively. Shame, can't ...

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] Gearboxes

Hmm ok, that throws a spanner in the works then. I'm basically going to have to consider buying a turbo from the start.

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] Gearboxes

Well that at least answers that part. I couldn't see them being much different, it would seem a waste of effort to vary the input shaft across more or less identical engines. I've read that the shafts splines on the turbo are slightly shorter possibly (no idea why, can see that they might be shorter...

[Mk2] [Generic] Gearboxes

I'm trying to identify if the NA and turbo boxes are the same at the engine side of things - i.e. is the input spline and shaft size the same? The plan is to use the engine and box from a GE in a project, then when I get bored of the GE just drop in a GTE. I'm aware the driveshafts are slightly diff...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Blow-by issue or normal?

Definitely normal - a slight amount of throttle should completely remove the blow-by through the cap. By ~1200rpm mine's neither sucking or blowing. (I know for sure my compression is fine and I'm not burning oil).

Re: Engine transplants and new DVLA legislation

I'm no legal eagle, but I don't see how this stops engine transplants. In order to retain your registration mark, linked to chassis number/VIN, you must score 8 points. The engine is worth 1 out of the 14 points available, transmission 2. It just limits the number of changes you can make - you could...

Re: MK1/2 differences

I'd looked through the sticky but it doesnt compare MK1 with MK2 which was my main concern I suppose, looking for a good donor car I want cheapish light parts and long lifespan. MK1's seem to go for buttons in bad condition (good old early toyota rust/paint!) whereas MK2's seem to hold a fairly high...

MK1/2 differences

Alright chaps and chapesses. Can someone point me to a decent list of the differences in running gear behind the MK1 and MK2's, other than engine and the obvious bodywork. I'm sure it's been covered a million times so I might get flamed a bit here, hence looking for links to more info rather than ac...

If its anything like the celica its cable-pulled by the servo and the arm pops off. Up the back of the centre of the dash is about all I could tell ya.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] CLACK CLACK CLACK CLACK CLACK

Even bump starting wont damage the cat unless you a) do it for an aweful long time and b) do it when its hot. Petrol doesnt damage the honeycomb, but running rich over-heats the cat in normal use. If you regularly flood it, then fire it up and drive off then it may cause some damage over time, but i...

[Mk2] [Turbo] PCV Valve/no valve

Just an information gathering exercise really. I have the engine from a MkII turbo in my gt4 and when i had the cam cover off I noticed the PCV connection was a straight-through affair. All mentions of the PCV I see online show a valve setup - can anyone confirm or deny?

Re: [All] [Generic] Plug 'n' play Megasquirt 2 Extra 2.0, anyone...??

:D How it works and what the possible problems are are easy :D, its sorting the problems that appear when everything should be working fine thats hard! I've added multiple input filters on channels, converted to Hall sensor in the dizzy instead of VR to get digital input instead - no luck. TBH the m...

Re: [All] [Generic] Plug 'n' play Megasquirt 2 Extra 2.0, anyone...??

Hmm..thats not good to hear: I'm planning on using an LC-1, too......! I dont think it actually causes any problems, it is just apparent. I removed mine temporarily and it made no odds to the problems. However, regarding the dizzy problem.....I think I can get round that quite easily... I have a di...

Re: [All] [Generic] Plug 'n' play Megasquirt 2 Extra 2.0, anyone...??

I attempted this some time back, unfortunately the stock dizzy senor/tooth system doesnt play well with the MS - a vast number of people have complained about misfires and false ceiling limits caused by the decoding and noise in the dizzy that the MS picks up. Many have tried better filtering and gr...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Engine weight

:) well thats a starter, cheers! I'd suspect that its probably the built-up weight but not inc accessories at a guess. As I say I had a large engine crane struggling with the engine and box/xfer of the GT4 so its no lightweight. Its a shame its so heavy but I guess thats why its so tough. Hmm it doe...

[Mk2] [Turbo] Engine weight

Anyone got actual proof of engine weights of our beasties? I'm looking at throwing my GT4 kit into a kit car but dont want to end up with a car as heavy as the GT4 at the end of it :) I can cram in a rover V8 at 144kg and having had mine out on a crane I'd have put it up near the same weight!

Re: [All] [Generic] Manifold Facing

Cheers for the offer but Ive managed to find a good knowledgeable machine shop near work that has offered to do it for £30, 2 day turnaround - thanks for the help though.

When i showed it to him he said "christ, how has that not cracked?! Thats way out!".

lol.
