Re: Recommend me a steering wheel...

I know it's not Jap but I can't see past the OMP WRC. It ticks the following: Perfect diameter Nice feel -the diameter of the ring is nice to grip, and with no finger grips it's comfortable to use any angle / spin round 3 spoke -can see the clocks in an SW20 and ST205 perfect Nice dish -brings your ...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Sub output for 'premium sound system'

so I went to Halfords foolishly just to ask what my options are.. the guy there is usually pretty good but he basically said i'd have to rip out the current system and start again... which im not prepared to do just yet because I don't have the funds ...Not very helpful but last year I went in look...

Re: What engine oil?

You buy a new plug every oil change? Or do you mean washer? I think In many dozens of oil changes on a dozen cars I only ever changed the washer once and never had a drip from the plug (one time Toyota snuck it in without asking us). Both the filter and plug I always nip up "light hand tight&qu...

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] making a rear lit panel

Very impressed with the neatness of that. Just remember in case you get hassle, if I recall you're not allowed a white light on display at the rear -may be prudent for all it's worth to build in a switch somewhere so you can turn it off e.g. MOT time or on the very unlikely time plod stop you.

Re: High CO & Fuel Trim Troubleshooting

Gonna ask a silly question but: if you've meddled with anything have you done an ECU re-set afterwards? When was the last time the fuel was cleaned out also. I'm only saying because: a) I did some work on a Toyota before, failed emissions TERRIBLY, I forgot to re-set the ECU, passed more than perfec...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Better place to take power for ebc?

Having done this on a few cars I recommend you run a new feed from the battery. Maplins etc sell a waterproof in-line fuse at the source, take a fused spur off your battery (say 10A) into the dashboard somewhere. You can get splitter units dead easy, e.g. 4 splits with fuses of your choice, fit a 0....

Re: Going to buy a facelift MK3

Always the problem looking: Budget versus travel costs. I remember seeing one outwardly nice MK3 local to my parents (3.5hr drive each way), quite honestly advertised by a girl who not got a clue. Looked a nice car from the ad, the moss on the roof gave it away when I saw it on the drive. At least I...

Re: no mr2's at all

Well I just got back from an 850'odd mile trip down to Liverpool area. Passed one black SW20 parked up at a tenament St Helens area. That is all. No MK1's or 3's which is unusual. Strange thing is I've seen 3 R reg Elgrands, exactly the same as mine I took down (even the colour) and that's a VERY ra...

Re: Going to buy a facelift MK3

How frustrating -I know ZZW30's are quite common, but because they are I remember it very difficult to find a decent one! People treat them like any small car after a few years, but want a premium for them botched up.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Which Coilovers?

I can chip in though really it should be in the coilover thread... Stock springs, wheels and tyres: Despite changing most parts there's really nothing wrong with new parts, they perform very good. Lowering springs, stock wheels and tyres: Forget it -I bought good springs and uprated shocks, but I ha...

Re: Urgent advice please!

I think your man is trying it on -non interference engine and the symptoms sound far worse than what he could have done. He's trying it on IF as you say it ran fine before. You already have an affiliate input -I wouldn't accept any other diagnosis / offer of help to the guy.

Re: Going to buy a facelift MK3

I dunno why people slate the SMT. I love it!

The forums seem to, the owners dont! I'll stand up for a good SMT.

Most of the zzW30's I saw they had expensive problems to fix even if they were mech sound!

That is awesome mate. Definitely my favourite engine on the forums just now! I like the crazy NA tuning.

...Ditto SnXero -love 3SGE builds. There must be some very cool engines out there from the snippits you see.

Re: thought maybe of interest to some, DIY engine lid fan conversion!

Brilliant Jim should of been that design from inception, to Toyota's eternal shame.

No shame to Toyota at all, the stock car probably worked ideally as-is, this seems a very good write-up though, not sure a sticky is good enough: maybe more a KB article? Very good write-up :thumleft:

Re: Complete noob, potential first MR2. Advice please!

I don't really go much on service history as I've seen so much faked and still need doing if you get one with it. Rust is the key -I think the mechanics are generally sound enough, get one with no rust is the challenge -and all the electrics should work of course.

Think that's just OEM seats [Think]

..and I asked them years ago and they discontinued the service, maybe it's back now?

£300 / seat was my average price for re-covering, but I'm not local to many more places. Should be cheaper south of the border.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Oil level sensor

Been mentioned many times -I fell foul of this going from gen 2 to gen 4 engines in my rev 2. I only found out as I found a bulb missing on my original cluster -when I replaced the bulb it showed the lamp lit. Thing is -it's easier and much cheaper to just check fluids every few weeks than retrofitt...
