[Mk2] [Turbo] Driving with a blown turbo
I might need to drive home a car with failed turbo seals, about 150 miles. Apparently it smokes very badly under all conditions and has been diagnosed as the turbo by a local garage. I was intending to disconnect the oil feed to the turbo and seal the pipe (or remove the pipe and plug the block) and...

[Mk2] [Generic] Fog lights
What's the trick to get the fog light holding bolts in? There doesn't seem enough gap between the top of the lights and the bumper to even get the bolts plus captive washers in let alone a socket...and balancing the bolt on the tip of a Phillips screwdriver (magnetic) just doesn't work

I'm going the replacement seals route now in the original cylinder since the bore looks perfect. Anyone know the part number ?

Problem solved....after vacuum bleeding, pressure bleeding and cracking lines to bleed....no success at all....put old master cylinder back on and it bled through perfectly in a few minutes and the car's drivable again. The new cylinder hadn't been assembled correctly. The part that screws onto the ...

Hi Martin, that was one of the variations I tried...
I'll have one more go and try reverse bleeding it as it feels like the master cylinder isn't filling fully from the reservoir..
Peter, probably too far away, I'm just south of Tamworth

[Mk2] [Turbo] Clutch bleeding...or maybe the other way around....
I've just replaced the clutch master cylinder and after many hours of trying, can't get a full pedal. I pulled fluid through to the slave by vacuum and then bled the normal way (and a few variations) but it always comes to the same point with only the bottom 25% of the pedal doing anything and this ...

ABS
The power steering pump noise I know well but have never heard the abs pump noise on the beams or, for that matter on the tubby where the abs does work. The reason I'm thinking air in the pump is that in the last session of bleeding we had a hard pedal, then suddenly we lost it and when we re-bled t...

ABS
Sensors check out OK. I'm coming to the conclusion that it might be air in the abs pump/valve module. Does anyone have a specific bleed method for this ? Some newer systems need to be hooked up to dealer equipment and the pump and valves cycled as part of the bleed process but I don't know about the...

[Mk2] [Generic] Rev 5 ABS, this should not be possible...?
My abs doesn't work, in that I can lock up either of the front wheels. The abs light functions normally and there is absolutely no sign of any mods to the wiring behind the dash. There are no current error codes stored. I've swapped the abs pump, both relays and the ecu all with no effect. No idea w...

If you really want to drain most of it go under the PS pump and detach all the pipes and drain that way. Fairly easy to do if you get the car up high enough.

Before you change the cables, have you set up the caliper pistons correctly?
For the auto adjustment to work well you need the pistons wound out so that the caliper only just slides over the pads...there'll be a thread on brake adjustment somewhere

Should be a rubber seat between the spring and the cup on the topmount. Mind you with the car weight on it it's perhaps unlikely that the spring could move against the cup

If the guy was really revving it he was probably trying to help you get a pass !!! The HC is well in so it's unlikely to be a cat problem and as you said it looks like slight overfuelling. On retest a fuel additive plus a really hot engine might get you through but there's no way to tell. Also check...

Generic ones are fine, just make sure you get the clips or cable ties fairly tight.
The rear wheel bearing is fairly normal except that the inner race will come away tight on the stub axle so you'll probably need to carefully split it to remove as there's no space to get a puller behind it
