Re: [Mk2] [NA] Mk2 as a daily drive?

I used my turbo daily for 6 1/4 years, was turn key reliable. The key is to keep on top of maintenance. If you spot something that looks like it might be an issue in a few months, do it immediately. My '2 only ever "let me down" twice. First time I'd left the door slightly ajar over night ...

Is it possible to change the pulley or is it new/recondition alternator time?

The pulley isn't the issue, it's what it's attached to that's seized. New or recon alternator time I'm afraid.

Re: Alternator belt snapped

The alternator should spin freely, by finger power let alone by hand.

Re: Getting the MR2 back Up to scratch!

Rogue are near Coventry if I remember correctly, and Pacifc works (Luke, or Skywalker on here) is at junction 9 of the M1, both come highly recommended (the latter, personally). Sounds like some relatively minor stuff though. Steering could well be worn inner or outer track arms. Heavy power steerin...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Low oil pressure at idle

Out of interest what's the normal oil temps when warm? You can't really define that as what's warm? I used to define "normal" as a safe temperature above which I considered the engine to safe to fully use which was above 80 degrees C. Motorway blasts would see over 100 degrees C, around t...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Low oil pressure at idle

I guess at idle, as there's little to no loading on the bearings there's not a big need for high oil pressure, as long as there's sufficient flow to keep the bearings lubricated....

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Low oil pressure at idle

Mine would be just under 2 bar when fully warm, which I think is about right? It would be a little lower than that once the oil was old and then come back up again with fresh oil. Generally low oil pressure when at temperature is a sign of a worn engine. Edit: Where do you measure your oil pressure ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] 1994 MR2 Turbo battery flat after 3 days standing still

It's more than likely quiet a small current drain if it takes 2/3 days to flatten the battery. I accidently left my door slightly ajar and it flattened the battery overnight. You're on the right lines though, put your meter in series with the battery and check for current with everything off etc. It...

Re: heads up

I have seen nearly new vehicles dazzle with me their hids. It is not just SUVs either. Seems to be mostly audis, beemers, mercs that ought to have decent quality factory fit hids. (Apparently if you get done for marginally speeding due to being distracted while dazzled by hids, that is no excuse! N...

Must admit, when I looked at the receipt and saw that the old turbo was reused, that was my first thought as well.

I know there are 2 water temperature senders on the coolant elbow, did you change the "correct" one? I don't know which is which though I'm afraid lol.

Other than that, timing possibly?

Re: Sidelight removal?

Got them out :) In the end, they came out as a complete unit purely because the reflector didn't want to part company with the light, but instead the plastic insert that the screw screws into simply pulled out of the bumper lol. I can see exactly how they're meant to come apart now, but the metal po...

Re: rev3 cold idle speeds

What does it idle at when it's warm?

It might be that the TPS is out of calibration?

Thanks for the advice all :)

I need to remove them completely in order to sell them lol. The headlights have gone and there is no front undertray so I'll have a go tomorrow.

Thanks again :thumleft:

Sidelight removal?

Ok, I've searched and searched, and I can't find a thing even though I'm sure it's out there! How do you remove the OEM front sidelight/indicator/reflector units?

They're clear Rev4+ units so I'd rather not damage them :(

Thanks in advance :thumleft:

Re: rev3 cold idle speeds

Most likely it'll be the ISCV (idle stability control valve) gunked up and not opening properly (or at all) on cold start. It's a part of the throttle body so once you've taken that off, it should be quite obvious :thumleft: Have a read through this thread, JeffD done a great write up on what to do ...

It's certainly stronger with respect to synchros yes, but as for it being stronger overall, I couldn't say.

Re: Turbo Gearbox Differences?

Hard to give a definitive answer really. I'm sure there's plenty of people out there running big BHP through earlier boxes but they are known for weak synchros.
