Re: How easy is it to get the engine out

You wouldnt be able to take it out from the top all in one go as the battery tray and g/box mount steelwork would get in the way - Unless you cut that off. Rest of the chassis's going to heaven & I have a plasma cutter so that would possibly be a goer! If it would make things worthwhile-easier ...

How easy is it to get the engine out

I have a scrap Mk1 that I've been stripping for parts. It's looking pretty sad now since I plasma-cut all the arches off and the bulk of it is off to an end-of-life place. But first I would like to remove the engine and gearbox as spares. I have an engine crane and a bunch of jacks and axle stands, ...

lower suspension ball joints [answered]

my mk1b failed mot on nearside front lower suspension arm balljoint and offside rear lower suspension arm balljoint. both citing 'excessive play'. my local motor factor sourced me one 'ball joint lower l/r' part number fbj5239 12j253fa bin no. 4zg376 they said they couldn't get hold of the other one...

Re: 2 x White Mk1 Sunroofs for sale CHEAP project

Good idea thanks Jack. I was just a bit worried about double posting in the wrong section. I'll either post a pointer there or move the thread, whichever admin prefers. Any mods like to comment, thx

2 x White Mk1 Sunroofs for sale CHEAP project

I've given up, the missus and the little'uns terrible 2's have won & my hobby cars have to go to a good home. I have an F reg which only failed the last MOT a couple of months ago on a rear balljoint and a handbrake cable, and a G reg which I got for spares only. The F reg has had a lot of atten...

Re: 1 hp

oh the memories lol I had a mate... etc etc I've since moved up to the fylde, it's a very horsey area round here, my missus is very horsey too, but she hates the MR2 :( I'm trying to convince her. I figure, chop the frunk off, add some of them long sticky things that go either side of the hoss.. oh ...

1 hp

Have recently come into the posession of two items (1) a 16hh pedigree ex-racehorse (2) an old unroadworthy but still decent mk1 fit only really for stripping and I'm sorta thinking, could I marry up the two somehow lol One puzzle is how to finally end the car-life of the '2 chassis. I'm not so sure...

Re: Adjustable power steering

Out of interest Paul what is the current status of this, are kits available? Can you do this mod for folks as an all-in job and if so what would the likely cost be. I have an extra stalk switch on mine - on the left hand side of the column, in the mirror image of the indicator switch position. It's ...

Hey thanks chaps, I didn't expect much but did as suggested & put 30 front 32 rear this morning at the local garage. OMG different car, it made a huge difference, my arms have stopped hurting now

Paul that sounds an interesting animal you refer to? Where can such a beast be seen?

Heavy steering

Possibly it's just because I'm used to our other vehicles which all have power steering.. but the Mk1 seems to have extremely heavy steering, even for an 80's non-assisted car? Although there's no 'loose play' in the steering as such, when driving you seem to have to turn the wheel through a heck of...

Re: 'sills' behind the rear arches

The guy who had the car before me did the main arches at the rear & he seems to have done a pretty good job. I've already done the base of the b-pillars, the rear arch forward quadrants and the sills - so it's just these rear quarters to do. Then a bit of filling & a paint job. She should be...

Re: Welder recommendation: between Birmingham and Oxford

to see if there is any other rotten bits hiding away. there are a couple of floor-area box sections which run longitudinally along the front underside of the car - hidden away above the radiator hoses. I was certain I had found all the rust on my car until the mot man failed me on these. you need t...
