Re: Sad but needs must
Thanks for your interest guys - someone's agreed to take her on now, so she's off the shelf so to speak.

Re: Sad but needs must
Yeah there's a whole thread on here somewhere detailing the whole process I went through fitting that. Basically the car's already wired for it, one just has to obtain the components (cruise ecu, actuator) & work out the connections. I found a guy in Texas who sold me the bits; it's all original...

Sad but needs must
With very great sadness.. I'm letting my '89 Mk1b go. White sunroof, blue interior, cruise control. It does need a whole bunch of welding filling & spraying, brake disks, suspension bearings etc but would be a doable project for someone capable. Everything's present & she's nice and tidy ins...

'ring' on the driveshaft
Just inboard from the hub, there's a ring-type thing on the driveshaft (I'm looking at the offside) It's about 2 inches diameter and half an inch wide, seems to be a rubber inner and a metal ring surrounding that, with more rubber over the top. What's it's function? On mine it looks a bit knackered,...

Re: Fire
I realised after the movano went up, the only thing that might have been useful would have been some form of underbonnet, automatic sprinkler system. Too scary to open the lid once the flames are going underneath

Fire
A long time ago I remember reading a thread by a member who was unfortunate enough to suffer a nasty fire - IIRC it was down to the battery +ve terminal going short to the engine cover. & I remember thinking how awful it must have been. Had a lucky escape recently - had a movano which burst into...

up on stands again, need sills
MOT time, car condemned, garage mechanics falling about laughing. I confound them every year lol.. must admit it's quite serious this time though, the sills are like colanders Tried my usual motor factor for 2 outer sills, he's normally pretty good at getting the weird and wonderful but can't help o...

Re: Remind me?
I was so sure the relay couldn't possibly be at fault, given it was a brand new one from Mr T a year or so ago. Pulled a 20 year old grimy one out of my scrapper this morning & thought, can't harm to try.. Problem gone away. Can't invoke the fault for love nor money now. So maybe it really was a...

Re: Remind me?
weird. looking at the relay socket from the back of the car, the top 2 terminals are the relay's coil & the bottom 2, the contacts. of the top 2 I found, the left hand one lights the test bulb if the other end is touched to the battery positive, regardless of key position. so I concluded the top...

Re: Remind me?
Thanks Paul, good idea, we'll try that first thing tomorrow. Gone dark out there now & my 4 year old second man has run out of steam for now. He's insistent it's "radio interference" that's causing the problem.

Re: Remind me?
hmm.. bit puzzled. Had some time to really look at this properly this afternoon, restarting over and over with cooling down time in between. I got the light rigged up & illuminating off the starter relay output to solenoid wire in the M2 connector just fine. Managed to catch the fault red-handed...

Re: Remind me?
ISTR going through it all back then, and it was the relay. Either I dismantled & cleaned the relay contacts or just replaced it, can't recall which.. and things seemed sorted. But, it started doing it again. Luckily I have a spare everything in the shed, so hopefully should be okay, thanks for t...

Remind me?
Sorry I know this has been covered in detail before. Fully charged battery. When I turn the key in my Mk1b to start, all the lights light up, and the starter kicks in. The engine turns over healthily, and kicks in no prob without any real hesitation. But then, the starter motor seems to stay engaged...

Re: Repainting of the original Mk1b wheels - to powder coat or not?
I hand-sanded then sprayed and lacquered my pepperpots about 3 years ago, I'm now looking at very tatty wheels again and the car hasn't done much mileage at all. I wouldn't reccommend skimping again.

Re: lower suspension ball joints [answered]
where do I go to place an order Peter (and BTW do you stock replacement front and rear droplinks? - I'm assuming these 'anti-roll-bar linkages' my MOT man is telling me about, are those?)
