Re: Front Arch liners, needed for air flow or just to stop mud getting in the arch?

They cover more than just the inside of the arch, then also cover the bit between the door and the arch. Without them, all the road dirt gets flung at the front edge of the door, which makes it very dirty. Worse, is the road noise. All the air / wind is blasted up at the front edge of the door, and ...

[Mk2] [Turbo] Engine Cutting Out Completely on Boost

A friends Rev 1 Turbo has a problem. It drives OK 'off boost', but when he put his foot down, the car accellerates, the engine light comes on, and then the engine dies. Once the revs drop to ~2000rpm, the engine comes back to life (self bump starts), and it will boost again. I did think maybe he's c...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] YellowStuff Pads?

I'm quite gentle on the brakes, I don't want to push the car too hard on the track anyway, as I can't afford to bend it!

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] YellowStuff Pads?

Just to resurect this.... I'm trying to decide between red and yellow stuff for my Mk2 Turbo, as I'm planning on doing some track days in it now. I've got a few requirements.... - Non agressive dust. I don't mind cleaning my wheels, but I'd like something that comes off without a brillo pad - Quiet ...

Re: Grrr.... someone just killed my Mk1

Shane, thanks for the info. The car is with the salvage company, it went straight there without going to a garage as I told them that they'd write it off. I'll contact them tomorrow and make sure that I'm not agreeing to any settlement by sending in the documents. Not heard anything regarding liabil...

Re: Grrr.... someone just killed my Mk1

Zurich claim that they get 20% of the value of the car from the salvage company, or 25% if it's a Cat D. Seems rather high, if it was £50 or £100, then there's no question, but I'm not buying it back for £300 (if I get my £1500). They've asked me to send in my documents, including a signed V5. I pre...

Re: Grrr.... someone just killed my Mk1

Got the first offer from Zurich today.... £850 [-X Just putting together a letter and some quotes to justify £1500 (what I paid 4 months ago + new brakes + windscreen + new T-bar rubbers.....) The buy back offer is 20%, so depending on what the end figure is it'll be aroudn £200 to £250. I don't wan...

Re: SC RIP :(

Really sorry to see that, at least you weren't in it at the time. It's bad enough losing a car that you've not spent much time on, must be really gutting to lose one that you've spent loads of time working on. I think the portable fire extinguishers have a place, but that's to put out the fire when ...

Re: Grrr.... someone just killed my Mk1

I was going to recover my K&N just in case I don't get it back, but I seem to have binned the stock airbox so ditched that idea. Was the K&N declared as a modification ? I think so, but I can't remember 100%. Even if it wasn't, I don't think an air filter would invalidate a claim, it's not ...

Re: Grrr.... someone just killed my Mk1

Excellent result.... just spoken to the independent witness, very independent, he lives in Wales and was on holiday! He wrote down what he saw happen shortly after he left the scene, in case I contacted him. He said that it was all her fault, she just turned across in front of me, and there was noth...

Thanks,

Re: Grrr.... someone just killed my Mk1

Again, thanks for the replies... I think I will buy the car back, depending on how much they want. Even if it's not easily repairable, it's probably worth breaking, though hopefully it won't come to that. If I get it back, I'll take the wings, bonnet, bumper etc.. off and see what's what, and how be...

Lauren, I may take you up on a wing if I decide to rebuild it, thanks.

As a couple have said, watch out at the moment, everywhere is quite slippy.... not that it would have made much difference if it was dry in my case though.

Re: Grrr.... someone just killed my Mk1

Thanks Shane, some great advice there.. I'll read it again tomorrow :) Yes, I'm fully comp. Wondering whether to see if I can get the free courtesy car they promise.... I have a receipt from when I bought the car, plus receipts for windscreen, brake discs, pads and new T-bar rubbers. Doubt any of th...

Re: Grrr.... someone just killed my Mk1

Thanks guys... I got some pics at the scene from my mobile, plus with some multimap aerial pics I created a description of the events.... If I'd been a truck, she'd have been dead. Lucky for her it was a low fronted Mk1 vs a high up Renault Scenic.....

Grrr.... someone just killed my Mk1

Really annoyed now, drove to Lancaster for an early morning walk, on the way back crashed my car (the White Mk1) I was driving down the road, moved into the middle 'right hand turn lane' to pass a people carrier that was stationary against the left hand side of the road, indicating left. As I ...
