Re: Not sure about this one

What's wrong with the exhaust, I like it... it has symmetry.

Re: Superchip

I know someone who had one of these, and they reckoned it did make a difference. It doesn't really give any more top end power, but is supposed to fill in the dip around 4500rpm, so should actually make more usable power. If you can get it for less than £100, I'd give it a go, you can always sell it...

Re: Headlight upgrade

Worth noting that just changing the bulbs won't always help that much, as after ~20 years, the reflectors are generally dirty and don't reflect that well any more. I bought some Raybrigs once (for a Mk2, but it's the same thing), and they were slightly better, but they're really flimsy with a thin p...

Re: Happy Christmas messages from Mk1 Club members

Merry Christmas :)

My New Years resolution is to do some work on my Mk1, it's been sat there 'in progress' for far too long!

Have a good holiday all..

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Engine Cutting Out Completely on Boost

Yeah, I meant to post back, sorry! Turned out it was just fuel cut, caused by the increase in boost due to the de-cat, an FCD was fitted and it's now fine. The description of the problem that my mate gave me was wrong, the engine wasn't cutting out, it was just going into limp home mode. Not sure ab...

Thanks Neil, if I'm still the highest bidder on Saturday, I might pop down.

Dry storage = a car cover outside.... LOL

Re: Another 30,000 mile Mk1 on eBay...

Sent him an e-mail asking if it's been in an accident, he replied saying that he did not know it had been damaged but that someone had e-mailed him and told him that a motorcycle drove into the car, damaging the bonnet, wing and widscreen. I'm actually the highest bidder at the moment... I think it'...

If that is the same car, then puts a bit of a different slant on things.

Pretty poor if it's a crash repair that it's being sold as a minter with no mention of the repairs...

Dodgy...

I'm not sure how you'd do a complete colour change without removing ANY panels!

Re: TRD Topmounts -Best place to buy?

Be wary of Fensport as I purchased some once for my Mk1a, only to find that the mk1a has three studs at the front and Fensport supplied me with a set that have four studs. They were so adament they were right they told me to drill a hole in my chassis. TRD only made the 4 stud version, I think they...

Looked like it'd had a respray, the paint in the close up looked rather 'orange peely'.... Nice car though.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Engine Cutting Out Completely on Boost

Indeed... it's an odd one. I hit fuel cut on my first Rev1 Turbo after it had the boost upped, just caught it if you nailed it in 4th up a motorway 'hill'. That killed off loads of power, but like you say, I had to the ignition off and back on again to get it to run correctly again. His just recover...

Re: Recommended Helmets for Trackdays

I've not found many helmet websites that quote ANY standards, makes it quite confusing. If you put in the standards and search in Google, only motorsport places come up and you're looking £300+. I think for starting with trackdays, I'll go for a sub £100 open face, then IF I end up doing the Sprint ...

Re: Recommended Helmets for Trackdays

I've been told that you can't do the Sprint series races with the T-bar panels in, I just presumed it was the same for trackdays. I guess not then! These are from the 2009 Sprint Regs: 5-2, Crash helmet The requirement for the Toyota Sprint Series is a helmet conforming to BS6658 Type A ( blue &...

Recommended Helmets for Trackdays

I've been looking at helmets for doing track days... I'd prefer an open face, but as you need a full face one for an open car, that would mean I couldn't use it if I got a ride in a Caterham etc.., so I'll go with a full face one. Does a T-bar (glass out req'd for track days) class as an open car an...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Engine Cutting Out Completely on Boost

Thanks, but I don't think it's fuel cut, as it kills the engine then recovers... If it was the wastegate fouling, then the VSV wouldn't have any effect, and therefore I'd expect it to still overboost when cold, where as he seems to have no power at all. Might be something else, maybe a faulty AFM or...

Bought a car that had them removed.... they were one of the first things I went out to buy for it!
