Re: Contemplating selling up
what you don't get in the s2000 is the same shove in back you get when the turbo comes on boost. consquently it doesn't feel as fast until you get used to it. what tends to happen put your foot down and suddenly realise your going 10-15mph faster than your realised. when you do get used to it you re...

Re: Contemplating selling up
do what i did and buy and s2000. then grin manically everytime you vtec from 6000-9000rpm and the dash flashes at you to tell you its time to change up. you'll miss the torque of the mr2, but i'm far more worried about losing my licence in the s2000 than i ever was in the mr2. oh and accept that the...

Re: fuel cut......anyone had it happen 2them?
you need to get a proper boost gauge if you are going to start playing around with the boost level. the stock gauge is not accurate. sounds like you've got an air leak and all your boost is leaking somewhere. fuel cut makes you think you've broken the engine as it violently cuts the spark when it de...

Re: replaced rear pads- but handbrake now rubbish!
totally agree. it is the amount the piston has to travel that determines how good the pedal is. but as soon as you have applied the foot brake once, the piston and pads move into the correct position. the piston then stays out and does not retract back to its initial position unless you have major r...

Re: replaced rear pads- but handbrake now rubbish!
this is the bit i don't get. the piston is hydraulicly actuated so how does winding it back out 180 degrees affect the effectiveness of the rear brakes? if you wind it all the way back in and fit the pads, as soon as you apply pressure to the brake pedal then the piston will move out and push the pa...

Re: replaced rear pads- but handbrake now rubbish!
paul, i'm sure you do know what you're talking about as i'm sure you have changed far more brake pads than me, but why do you need to wind the piston back out 180 degrees? obviously you have a technique that you've discovered through experience but i'm intrigued to know exactly what is occuring mech...

Re: replaced rear pads- but handbrake now rubbish!
this is the link to the BGB article on how to change the rear brake pads http://www.mr2-tech.com/bgb/mechanical/volume2/brake_system.htm i've not heard about the 180 degree exact turn thing that paul mentions. whilst i do not want to disagree with him, all you should need to do is wind the piston ba...

Re: How does the VSV work.
so you understand how the wastegate works and is opened by boost pressure? if so, then the vsv is basically a bleed on the pressure line to the wastegate actuator. it is a normally closed valve which the ecu opens when it determines that conditions are ok for high boost. it opens the vsv, allows a f...

Re: Knocking/Grinding noise at front ,steering at low speed
might well be the bearing at the top of the strut. is it a regular knocking or one or two knocks as you turn the wheel? Only seems to happen when turning to park vehicle at low speeds. It will happen turning left and right. Any idea's and is it going to cost the Earth to sort out. Vehicle has done 8...

Re: Problem: Ross piston fitment onto standard con rods??
i'm with dino in my reasoning for machining the pistons. you know the rods are correctly sized because that is the size that toyota made them to. the original pistons had wider pockets that the rods fitted into, so all you are doing is matching the new pistons to the originals size. definately machi...

Re: Clutch question... expert advice needed
sounds more like the slave cylinder is leaking and letting air into the system. if the master cylinder is leaking you should be able to find evidence of fluid leakage. Hi all, I've a 95 Turbo, last year (6 months ago) I noticed the clutch bearing getting louder and louder. Eventually I also noticed ...

Re: Engine is Stuttering?
ignition components take a hammering on the mr2 turbo and need to be in good condition for the car to run properly. you can't scrimp on engines that produce this level of performance and expect to still get the performance. change your plugs if they are tired, also check your dissy cap and rotor arm...

Re: Problem: Ross piston fitment onto standard con rods??
i'd be inclined to machine the pistons, not the rods. the rods are the size they should be, its the pistons that are at fault.
stupid question, but are the pistons the correct ones for the engine? you've not accidently been supplied the wrong ones?

but going for a new one or a used one? i had civic type r for a few days around the time i bought the s2000 as a courtesy car. nice car, handles well, good vtec kick, loads of tuning potential. ulitmately it was a good fwd hot hatch. fun, but give me rear wheel drive any day. my girlfriends brother ...

rs components sell them, or any shop that deals with compressors and airlines should sell them. Hi guys, I need to find a place in the UK that sells these http://www.joewoodworker.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=45&products_id=296 http://www.joewoodworker.com/catalog/images/brassfitting-s.gif...

Re: safe mode
hello mate, so i think if you trace the hose out of the actuator and find a decent piece to cut in half, and block it off, then your car should stay out of safe mode. this will actually lock the car permenantly in low boost mode unless you use some type of manual boost controller. The vsv is an add...

Re: Binding Brake!
Have you had a recent change of brake pads prior to the problem? if so then contrary to Ben's advice i would say that it is more likely to be a stuck piston. If the garage has managed to free it up and it has seized again then you could take you chances on a refurb kit, but i would be inclined to bu...

Re: Another "what's it worth?" question, rev2 turbo
probably a cracked piston or ringland then. continued running of the engine will only damage the bores. i'd get it fixed and sell it as a running car. then your looking at more like £3500
