Re: Why has the Toyota MR2 not evolved into the mk4?
That view is very rose tinted in my view. The mx5, mk3 mr2, s2000, 350z, Z4 etc which are all the modern day contempories of the MK2 MR2 all significantly outhandle the MK2 MR2. That's not to say the Mk2 mr2 doesn't handle well when all its bushes, springs, dampers, geomtry etc are all in good condi...

Re: Tubby Vs VX220
The VXR is a cracking car. I test drove a VX220 turbo when i was looking to replace my last car, but i just couldn't cope with contortions of getting in and out of it on a daily basis. But if i could have one as a track car, i would like a shot! The VX220 is a lovely motor but it's a brave man who b...

Re: [Mk2 NA] Rear Brakes
its normally the inner pad that wears more than the outer because that is the one that actually gets pushed onto the disc by the piston before the whole caliper moves on the slider to bring the outer pad into play.
sounds like the caliper is not sliding properly.

The 276bhp was in the days when all the jap manufacturers had a gentlemans agreement not to produce engines with a bigger power output than that figure. The real figure was more like 320b hp. The ones i've seen on the track are absolute flying machines. Won't go into details, but lets just say ' wha...

depends if you mean black black or just brown. i've just had my car serviced (24k miles on this engine) and the oil went brown within about 30 miles. But golden brown, no black.

The mk2 turbo clutch is damn heavy as standard. Certainly much heavier than most other cars i've driven.

Re: How can i reconnect the VSV valve
but you will need a boost guage to check and set the boost as you have removed boost control from the ecu by not reconnecting the vsv. Thanks Guys, Spoke to ben and he cleared it all up for me. no need for me to re-connect, just fit a G-Valve to turn up the boost. So i take it the car will always ru...

Re: Bedford Autodrome anyone?
There's 98 ron petrol on site for 99p per litre, and no, handheld cameras are not allowed.
But you don't get automatically black flagged for spinning either.

Re: Bedford Autodrome anyone?
Is it the full GT circuit you're going on? You'll easily get through tank for fuel the day. I got through a tank and a half. Be aware that bedford is a brake eater as there are a couple of long straights with some tightish corners at the end so make sure you have sufficient pad. Also don't get carri...

98 db knocks out a lot of people with non standard exhausts, and they are pretty strict.

Re: civic type r...again
eh? VTEC is there to allow the engine to run a mild lift cam at lower revs to improve economy, driveability and emissions and then bring in a high lift cam at high revs to generate power. basically its is to prevent the compromise you get with having a single cam profile for the entire rev range and...

Re: civic type r...again
from my experience, a standard Mk2 turbo will just beat a well driven CTR in a straight line. But if you catch a CTR out of VTEC, you'll pull a big margin before it gets close to matching the acceleration and there are a lot of badly driven CTR's out there :). That's when it appears an MR2 has destr...

Re: civic type r...again
Hmmmm, that 5th gear test. Not exactly conclusive evidence. I've seen no end of best motoring type videos where the s2000 absolutely kills the CTR. From my own track based experience the s2000 can easily outcorner a CTR. S2000's are notoriously bad in the wet though with the standard tyres. In my op...

Re: Whirring noise from clutch after cold start
Your explantion is one that keeps coming up for this noise, but i personally disagree. I had this noise on both my mr2 and my current car and replacing the clutch release bearing made no difference to either car. If the clutch release bearing is going, you generally hear it more when you depress the...

Re: Whirring noise from clutch after cold start
what you can hear is the gearbox input shaft rotating in the gearbox. Its more noticeable when the gearbox oil is cold and therefore thicker. Nothing to worry about. i had this on my turbo for 3.5 years and it never got any worse.
