Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Over boosting after turbo rebuild

Resetting the ECU and fitting the CAT (done at the same time) definatly improved things. The ECU has settled down now so running a lot smoother but still over bosting. Seeing about 17psi in 3rd, 12psi in 4th and 9.6psi in 5th... I think I am going to fit the standard exhaust and see what that does. ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Over boosting after turbo rebuild

Thanks for all the info guys. The car is all over the shop at the moment! I reset the ECU to get those stable boost figures in the image, but the next day the ECU seems to be dicking about with the timing a lot as it is holding back sometimes and not others. and the boost was very high again the oth...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Over boosting after turbo rebuild

OK so I am making some progress and can actually drive the car now! I refitted the CAT yesterday and that does seemed to have helped. It was hitting 15.6 psi (I think might have been 15.9 psi as was only a quick test and I can't remmeber) in 3rd. I had a HKS intake pipe fitted so wondered if that co...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Over boosting after turbo rebuild

From the little reading I have done, and what i have learned though this process is it seems that it's how worn your turbo (Or possibly housing) is so maybe a good thing for you Shinny! As it is only some cars it must be so marginal! The Turbo Technics hybrid runs a single scroll housing I believe s...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Over boosting after turbo rebuild

Since posting this I have found your posts on boost creep Shinny. Certainly seems like that is the case.... I am disappointed I didn't search boost creep earlier as I have spent a month now trying to track down the problem myself, had a local Jap specialist check it over, and the car is currently at...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Over boosting after turbo rebuild

Yes that's correct.

Before the turbo recon with the boost controller 'off' (creating the same situation) it ran about 10 psi.

The actuator is the same one (just tested and painted by Turbo Technics) and is defiantly opening correctly.

[Mk2] [Turbo] Over boosting after turbo rebuild

I have just had my turbo rebuilt by Turbo Technics, to standard specifications (with a steel core) but am experiencing issues with over boosting. Car is a 1994 Rev 3 Turbo. The car is exactly as per before the turbo was removed, but I have removed the boost controller to simply the system to help tr...

Possible Eibach Spring Group Buy

I have been looking into springs and have found that a lot of people say the Eibach Pro kit is the best for the UK roads, I have also found that you cannot buy these anymore in the UK. I have dealings with Eibach at work so contacted them to see if I could get hold of any. They do still sell them bu...

Thanks guys. You are not wrong JLW I think mine has had the front bumper painted so makes the bonnet look a different colour when it polished and waxed up in the sun  http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e51/benfacer/MR2/IMAG0441_zpsha6mzkw8.jpg http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e51/benfacer/MR2/...

Re: My fisrt MR2 - 1994 Rev 3 Turbo Tin Top

As some of you may have seen I managed to sort my knock sensor issues sorted by fitting a new genuine sensor and re-wiring with a shielded cable. I also managed to track down the hesitation issue by finding the coil was very cracked and very foobared! http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e51/benfacer/I...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Side Mount Intercooler inlet temps back to back

I'm just using a K type Thermocouple hooked up to a multimeter. The meter updates 3 or 4 times a second so you can watch the temperature rise (very quickly) and then when I lift off it drops back quickly too. It's fun watching it rise while sitting in traffic, seen some crazy temperatures while sum...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Side Mount Intercooler inlet temps back to back

i had 12degC off boost rising to 42degC on boost and then off throttle straight back down to 12degC, stock intercooler and 17psi. For sure the stock unit isn't great but unless you do a lot of track days or live somewhere warm it's actually not as bad as people make out. Thanks for that. How are yo...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Side Mount Intercooler inlet temps back to back

I did have a feeling this would open a can of worms! That's why I was trying to concentrate on finding numbers or tangible differences (like fins in pressure tubes) Benfacer you should buy the Greddy SMIC - that's my Ebay ad  I would love to CalMac but just bought a exhaust so going to have t...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Side Mount Intercooler inlet temps back to back

I should say I am not going to be going for big power with my 2, just wanting to make if efficient (plus I'm a bit of a geek so find these things very interesting!) Don't think there is any doubt that the uprated coolers are better than the standard, I am just interested to see how much better. I've...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Side Mount Intercooler inlet temps back to back

Might be a while before I can do this but will definatly do it at some point. You are right androo007 it is not just about temperature but also pressure drop. I will see if I can get a pressure sensor before the cooler as well. I am thinking of trying to make a boss to space the dump valve out and h...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Side Mount Intercooler inlet temps back to back

There's a guy on mr2oc which swears that the standard Intercooler is on for a bit more power and that it's the fan that limits the cooling. And apparently he's done tests. I'll do some searching on there cheers. I have just got myself a Blitz SBC-ID so can monitor inlet temps. I might add a extra t...
