Re: Help identifying Rev 3 parts

This is a picture of the air vent to the intercooler, with the offending pipe that comes out of the firewall, through the side of the plastic cowling and turns up 90deg and exits the top of the cowling. Correction, this is not a picture because I can't figure out how to upload it - I still need help...

Re: Help identifying Rev 3 parts

Thanks Gazza, The photo of the subframe is very useful, but can I clarify - the rev 2+ sub-frame is the bottom one? I heard they had lengthened the link arms? I can't tell much about the rev version from the front suspension, it's all been re built with 17" rims, Tein coilovers with 'Endless' 6...

Help identifying Rev 3 parts

By way of an explanation of my problem I need to tell my back-story, sorry if it's long-winded. I'm living in Thailand, and I bought my SW20 turbo about 5 years ago in Bangkok. A lot of cars in Thailand are not what they appear to be (we actually have some extremely skilled mechanics here, most modi...

Ignition coil

It's been a long time between posts for me - my car's been asleep in the garage for the last year (since I've got another daily driver now) and I decided to do some TLC on my MR2. New red leather interior, sound deadening under the carpet etc. I've been trying to tidy up the engine bay - specificall...

Re: What are the correct tyre sizes for 17"?

Thanks for that - I've been searching the Tovo main Japanese website (Toyotyres.com) thinking they would have the full range. On that site they don't list ANY T1Rs for 17" or 18' rims!
I just checked my local (Thai) site & lo & behold, T1Rs and R1Rs both in 245/35 x 17 sizes.

What brand are your 245/35/17s?
I've been searching everywhere for a lower profile solution for my car.

Re: Largest tyres on a rev3 turbo 17" arches rolled

I've got 9.5 x 17" rims with 255/40 tyres on the back - on a widebody.(fiberglass arches) There is truck loads of width space but the issue is O/A diameter (25")- there's less than an inch clearance but it doesn't rub. There is no 35 profile 17" rubber on the market to reduce the diam...

Re: Rear engine cover air scoop that sits above the roof?

The air flow through the engine bay is designed to be from the side vents upwards & exiting the vents in the engine cover, introducing another airflow in the opposite direction will have a negative effect. you'll slow the intake rate at the side vents. If you baffle around whatever induction fil...

Re: RH Axle bearing

Hi Toxo, It's the bearing 2/3rds of the way along the shaft that needs replacing. I need to know if there are any variants between a '91 & say a '94 model. I know where the chassis number is but that doesn't show the engine type on it & Toyota are too thick to search by engine type or chassi...

RH Axle bearing

SW20 3S GTE I dropped my car into the workshop with it's nasty banging noises & the inner bearing on the right-hand driveshaft has disintegrated - stuffing up the oil seals at the transaxle of course. The mechanic is unsure of the model for ordering replacement parts as the car has no VIN plate....

Re: Help - Apocalyptic clattering / banging noise

Well, Greddy turned out to be right on the money! The RHS driveshaft bearing has destroyed itself, but the issue was disguised by a second issue with a broken exhaust support bracket (where it passes over the crossmember) which was making stereo banging & knocking noises. Thanks for all your hel...

Re: Help - Apocalyptic clattering / banging noise

The other thing to note is the sound has (for now) gone away again. I don't think it's a disintegrating turbo - I still get full boost & most of the bits that can fall off on of those are, well, fairly important! I have a friend who is a race car engineer & he thinks a deflector may well be ...

Re: Help - Apocalyptic clattering / banging noise

I had a thorough look at all the shields & support brackets around the intercooler this morning & there is nothing loose (or missing). Then I got to thinking - what if there is something rattling around INSIDE the intercooler? Would explain how it rattles on overrun - negative pressure flaps...

Re: Help - Apocalyptic clattering / banging noise

It feels absolutely normal.
The only thing I noticed when I looked just now was the throttle cable that clips onto the intercooler piping had come out of it's clip - hardly what I was expecting to see (alternator dangling by a wire?)

Thanks for the Thai translation BTW.

Re: Help - Apocalyptic clattering / banging noise

Thanks Sheppy, I just took a look (flashlight as night has fallen over here) & can't see / feel anything loose - but 'walloping about' is a beautifully accurate phrase that I'll plagiarize tomorrow when I take it to a workshop & put it on a hoist... (how to translate that into Thai? Anybody?)

Help - Apocalyptic clattering / banging noise

'94 SW20 turbo widebody. I was just driving home (5 or 6 km into the trip) when suddenly (at low speed) I get a world-ending clattering noise coming from behind my seat - it sounded like someone had tied a tin can to my driveshaft. I stopped - as you do - to look under the car. I figured I'd picked ...

Re: What does a mk2 na rev5 weigh?

1210kg / 2668lb according to this website:
(can't post URLs yet so add the regular prefix) carfolio.com/specifications/models/car/?car=185009
(1270/2800 for the turbo)
That doesn't account for the chip packets & beer cans under the seat though!

Another Introduction

Hi all, I bought my '94 widebody turbo about 6 months ago in Bangkok, Thailand. I'm actually living & working in Phuket which is a 700km drive south so I had a great test drive to get it home! Over here things are seldom what they seem - it's common to buy a new bottom-of-the-range model and get...

Re: Oops, it just came off

When I bought my car it had a warped brake disk, which made braking a very exciting experience - I found the cause when I tried to remove the left front wheel. One nut was so tight I had to use 2 pipe extensions on a regular star brace & I bent the brace before the nut cracked. I'd be surprised ...
