Re: Grinding noise when turning right
Are you 100% sure it's coming from the rear? You see I had a similar issue on my GT-Four many moons ago, turned out to be a new front brake disk rubbing on the backplate, but only when turning in one direction and close to full lock - the plate had gotten bent when the disk was changed and just need...

Re: Rear tie rods? Where to buy?
This report is worth a look regarding after market rear tie bars http://www.matrixgarage.com/content/aw11-rear-tie-rod-test So if that's legit real-life testing then perhaps it is better to just stick with OEM parts? Are they still available from Mr T though? I expect mine are overly corroded and w...

Re: MR2 MK1a GEARBOX ISSUES
It's compulsory if you're an MR2 owner :D Not with me it's not, don't like Americanisms , especially when referring to a Japanese car ! ?????????????? :? Just a term where the USA English word is different from UK English. In this case we're talking about the fact that what you Americans call...

A fair few 'Ferrari' style kit cars were based on the fiero back in the day I seem to remember...looks like the rot has gotten too heavily to that one though Still, interesting looking car - shame he left it this long before deciding to do something with it

Re: Radiator options.
If you're not too worried about it being brand new then maybe just getting a secondhand, pressure tested one off fleabay or a breakers might do the trick? I just picked up one off ebay for around half the cost of a new one as I just need something that won't leak on mine to get the engine running ag...

I've been told by SWMBO that she feels like a car widow already...started just a day after I'd bought it lol! She has said that she thinks its pretty though, she likes the retro styling as well as the lights so that's something. She's even helping out taking photos of everything to document pr...

Some good options here - had completely forgotten about the siphon option. Just proves what a great resource the forums are Hope you manage to get it sorted one way or another - plenty of workable solutions to choose from now at least

no pic at the moment but can anyone guess who has 2 headlight cages that now "pop" up! Yep thats right me. Great stuff :thumleft: something very satisfying about seeing those pods come up and go down. I honestly think those are my other half's favourite part of the car  If it hadn't ...

Re: Sump
It's going to be a messy job if it's still full of oil though! Cleanest option may be to obtain a replacement sump, drill a hole in this one to let it drain then swap them over. I vote this ^^^ Seconded - you can't drill the sump plug as it's loose and spinning, and dropping the whole sump while st...

Re: Good compression but using oil - can anyone help in the Bristol area?
he also said Toyota state tolerances for the head bolts and they can often be reused. He's a parts supplier so I don't think it's in his interest to say that unless true. Sorry, but IMHO whoever said you could reuse a stretch bolt is talking out of his freckle as our Aussie cousins are fond of sayi...

Re: Air intake ducting
No idea what to do with the engine tbh. It was fine when it came out several years ago and can still be cranked over by hand but has 130k or so on it so probably warrants some preventative maintenance but I don't want to strip it unnecessarily. What's the recommendation before I clean it put and pu...

Thanks :-)
Just a quick thank-you to those who posted info, I'd forgotten about TCB...been away from Toyotas too long it seems Anyway, I'll bear all that's been said in mind as it seems it shouldn't be too much of an obstacle to getting a decent job done, so thanks for the reassurance

I'll have to check, but I think even if the car is SORN, you can get away with the 'drive to MOT' option, then get the tax sorted once it passes - fingers crossed anyway

Re: Mk1, F Reg. Great car, easy Project
Hi Mark, If you have an email address send me a pm and I will get a couple pics to you. She drives really very very well. So I see no reason why it wouldn't drive to a destination again as advised if an MOT is booked. Thanks, Wayne PM sent - had to break my email addy down into bits though as the s...

Parts availability for restoration project?
Hi all - I'm currently toying with the idea of getting a Mk1 as a restoration project, and I thought it made sense to ask what the situation is regarding pukka spares? Can you still get the bits from Mr T or is the Mk1 just too old now? I know Fensport (for example) do some parts, but what's the rea...

Re: Mk1, F Reg. Great car, easy Project
with no MOT I guess it needs to be trailered, so getting it back home could be an issue Technically if you pre-book an MOT at your local garage you are permitted to drive it there directly from the vendors house assuming the car is taxed, insured and generally in a roadworthy condition. Good point ...

Re: Mk1, F Reg. Great car, easy Project
Some good news has just been pointed out to me. Looking at previous MOT's it looks like the car has had some repairs for corrosion back in 2007. The latest MOT at 2012 has no mention of corrosion and the car has been mostly dry stored. When having a quick glance underneath I could not see any real ...
