bridging (I think) the Fp and B+ terminals in the diagnostic conector in the engine bay, by passes some of the circuit and will force pump to run. Very quiet here these days , but the mk1 forum on facebook is pretty active. Also see mk1 electrical wiring manual. http://www.mr2oc.co.uk/ocdownloads/Te...

Re: Possible head gasket issue
Camshaft oil seals (and maybe do the one on the crank as well) Timing belt tensioner Various cam cover/bolt seals. You'll also need a slim 12 point 10mm (I think) socket for the head bolts if you haven't got one. Maybe a tap to clean up threads New oring for distributor (maybe do the internal seals ...

Bulkhead/Scuttle Rust
Hi, Any thoughts on how best to approach fixing this. Cut in from inside or through bulkhead/inner wing? Nearside worst. Where exactly was the water mean't to drain? Re: underside to frunk heater matrix pipes
Good to know, I have guessed it probably wouldn't go.
I'll keep a look out for some in good nick.
I'll Prob make something up from rubber pipe and connectors (or perhaps sleeve the pinhole) for now.
Cheers
Jim

underside to frunk heater matrix pipes
Hi,
Have a slight leak (pinhole) on one of the coolant pipes that goes around the steering rack and into the frunk. Is it possible to get this out without dropping the steering rack?
Thanks
Jim

Hi, Head blew again between 3&4. 1) Does anyone know if the ca 3 mm diameter coolant holes in the block that point in between the cylinders are supposed to be blind or should there be a flow through them? Jim Bad form replying to ones own post but looks like the answer is yes http://www.toymods...

I bought a set of new alternator bearings a couple of years ago, prob off ebay. I seem to remember they were a bit pricey for small roller bearing but weren't a common size. Easy enough to fit with care and a small puller

Re: Front suspension lower arm body pick up with pictures - help needed.
Perhaps it would be possible to re-circulate/spray a chemical rust remover into the cavity, jet-wash out the debris and then flood with waxoil? Hand held boroscopes are quite cheap these day so could inspect to see if the removers done the job.
Anyone ever tried this?

I know... :-( Anyone got any success stories from this area?? Not as bad as yours but worth mentioning for any with similar but less severe issues. http://www.mr2oc.co.uk/know-your-2/mk1.html?view=kb&kbartid=32 That said his repair won't last forever as there's almost certainly some rot remaini...

Re: MK1a / MK1b Clutch Slave Cylinder and Rod difference?
Is the clutch arm actually moving when the clutch is pressed? You say floppy pedal is there any resistance? - I've had the seal stick in the master cylinder before when trying to bleed - i.e. relying on the spring in the master cylinder to push the seal back whereas in normal operation the force of ...

Re: door mirror glass removal?
It can be removed but it's one of those "Close your eyes and commit" things. It's held in place by a ball and socket in the center that needs fair bit of force to dislocate it plus the 2 toothed adjusters that will just pull out and sound horrible! Thanks that's really helpful. I'd alread...

door mirror glass removal?
Was going to give the door mirrors on my mk1b a spruce up. Is it possible to remove the glass, as would make re-spraying easier. If so how - tried pulling on the lower edge but seems firmly attached.
Thanks

Re: MK1a engine in MK1b?
I think there was a difference in flywheel/clutch diameter between mk1a and mk1b. I suspect they may well be swappable, I'm sure someone round here will confirm.

Re: Questions
It's been a while since I've had my car running so I've forgotten a fair bit... 1. Bled the coolant which has eradicated the hunting when the car gets up to temp. The car idles smoothly at 1400rpm with the lights on and doesn't get any lower. Turn the lights off and it goes down to 950rpm with a li...

And the winner goes to Jimzzr! She's purring like a kitty with a big bag of Dreamies again! ) Had the gasket failed...

Re: Help - Sounds like its running on 3 cylinders brown fluid in coolant reserve tank
Sounding a bit like head gasket but need to rule out other possibilities. If it will idle pull the ht leads in turn - if no effect on revs then problem lies with that/those cylinder(s). If 1+ cylinders seem bad check for spark with good plug in hT lead and earthed to engine block. If you have a good...

Re: Gearbox removal
Getting it out is the easy bit, getting it back in is the ball ache if you don't have lifting gear (hoist or 2 buddies and a pole + rope). Thermostat housing just unbolts from the top of the gearbox and can be left hanging about, so need to drain the coolant. I'd drain the gearbox oil, although not...

The engine covered 1300 miles with no issues other than what took place so I consider what I spent where was a good investment. I recently bought some genuine Toyota parts from Amayama trading. Arrived from japan in a couple of weeks. Need to be wary of import duties etc - there's a .gov website wi...
