The bolt for the tensioner is 90109-10148
Now getting a torque wrench on one of those, engine in situ, is a challenge

Re: Is there a problem with my starter motor?
Thanks. I'm the same. It usually does it when I've not used the car for a while. I might try removing the starter motor first and see if it needs lubricating. If that doesn't sort it I might try changing it for a used one and then I'll see if it's a relay as you suggest. As a start, try connecting ...

Re: Gearbox removal
Cheers for the advice. Looking around on the net I found one set of instructions that are slightly different to those in the BGB. www.mr2mk1club.com/old/repairsp90.html On the face of it they look more complicated, requiring removing the track control arm mount and driveshaft on the LHS. I guess it ...

Gearbox removal
Hi, I've got the well reported 5th gear popout probs. I tried the quick fix by swapping a hub from another good (probably - well at least the hub wasn't worn when I removed it so most likely didn't have issues) gearbox I have. This worked for a while but problems have returned. I figure my best bet ...

Re: MR2 MK1a GEARBOX ISSUES
Replacement slave cylinder should cost you about £25 for the part plus maybe an hours labour to fit and bleed through and the cost of some fluid. As a short term fix you can just bleed it through and keep an eye on the level. That's what I thought until I came to refit the new cylinder - I could ge...

Re: Which head gasket?
Well I'm back up and running again. Head gasket must have been leaking between cylinders. Seems good now but it'll be a good few miles yet before I'll be confident it's fixed. Why it didn't work first time I'm not sure. Could have been the old bolts - they didn't tighten smoothly (twisting and slip ...

Re: Which head gasket?
I think to diagnose this further i'd need to get hands on, there are too many variables now. I'd like nothing more, but unfortunately I'm in kent. I know what you mean about too many variables. I've pull the head again to get me back to where I started and then fix it from there if it needs it. I d...

Re: Drop link removal and other MOT fun and games.
To be honest, droplinks can be bought for around £10 a pair on ebay if you happy to change them fairly frequently. If so, then grind off the old ones and fit them. Once you got no grip with the allen key you are pretty much stuffed unless you want to spend ALOT of time getting them sorted. Some dro...

Re: Which head gasket?
Well re-checked cam timing and was all correct. Didn't remove crank pulley this since last running OK should that be good. To compound my woes I dropped a washer off the cam cover and I'm not sure where it's gone! I'm tempted to just pull the head again and try fitting another gasket with new bolts....

Re: Which head gasket?
That was my first though but all marks seem to check out OK.
Actually thinking about it I didn't actually check the knock pin positions. If there is more than one punch mark on the pulley, I guess its just concievable I manage to inadvertently rotate the Ex cam fitting the belt. hmm.

Re: Which head gasket?
I changed the head gasket but still appeared to have a slight leak. Otherwise engine ran fine. Pulled cams and connected air line to spark plug apertures. Couldn't see any trace of bubbles in coolant at cap opening. Slackened off head bolts slightly and re-torqued to 45ftlbs. Didn't really expect it...

Re: mr2 4agze distributor cap part number ?
19101-16220 Get a genuine one from Toyota. I ordered one from camskill and the mounting points on it were wrong (could be fixed if you drilled them yourselves). Genuine cap was 22.01 quid from them two years ago. Interesting. I ordered one for a mk1b NA from camskill and had exactly the same proble...

Re: MOT Fail :-(
Well as expected I got a fail. A few things: 1- NS driveshaft gaitor bust 2- NS front anti-roll linakge ball joint dust cover bust 3- NS steering arm movement For 1 and 2 is my best port of call Mr T? Can't believe the ball joint is knackered already as that was an OEM replacement two years ago.. F...

Which head gasket?
Head gasket went between 3&4 (running on two) and then (or perhaps before to some extent?) to the water jacket. Anyway stopped in a cloud of steam before things got too hot. Have pulled the head and fortunately no pitting horrors on the block so looks like it will be OK, although I haven't yet c...
