Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Is my ECU dead? Rev2 tubby

Didn't go out and do anything on it today because of the weather, however I managed to uncoil all the wiring yesterday and I am pretty certain I found my problem! Im reckoning my wiring is probably beyond repair but going to attempt to fix it the next dry day we get :) There was a couple of broken w...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Is my ECU dead? Rev2 tubby

Just managed to get the last 2 out with abit of force and a flat head screwdriver  All the other spade connectors had a clip I had to push in apart from the last 2 and I just couldn't undo them! Anyway time to go try follow where this wire goes. Hopefully its not very long because its all tape...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Is my ECU dead? Rev2 tubby

How big of a job is it to do this mate? Never done anything like this before and really didnt want to lob more cash into it if poss, but depending price of loom I may just do this. Also is there a chance that these burnt out earths could have blown anything else in the process like my ecu etc? Obvio...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Is my ECU dead? Rev2 tubby

Not had any time in the last couple of weeks to try and do anything with it, but I am onto it today and tomorrow weather permitting so fingers crossed I can get it sorted as I really don't want to have to break it for spares (cant afford to throw more money into it anymore). Turns out there is actua...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Is my ECU dead? Rev2 tubby

If you can trace back as far as they will go (the passenger foot well) .. and replace ... if they sitill burn out we will go from there . Feel kinda dumb again (lol), but it kind of goes underneath the fuse box in the rear of the car and into a bigger chunk of wiring that's all coiled up. It...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Is my ECU dead? Rev2 tubby

What he basically told me was I would need to replace the whole loom, and then it might do it again because there could be a problem elsewhere. And labour costs alone would make it not really worth while. Where the burnt out wires are is just a few cm away from the fusebox, but he said I would need ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Is my ECU dead? Rev2 tubby

Gutted  Went to see the sparky 2 days ago and he hadn't had chance to finish looking at it yet. Anyway just had a phone call from him telling me to come in to look at it... He has removed the Clifford alarm, still no joy, so he has checked through some of the wiring and found 2 burnt out wires ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Is my ECU dead? Rev2 tubby

I'm going to say immobilizer because of that quote .. my guess is the 7.5 amp ecu fuse has been immobilized plus the fuel pump .. unknown if the starter has been done (don't know if a concept 650 has 2 or 3 point immobilizer). I would be looking at the clifford from the information you have given m...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Is my ECU dead? Rev2 tubby

Looking at fuses is about as useful as mudguards on a tortoise. Use a DVM and test them properly. When I get back home from my course tomorrow I will pull them all out and check them again with the meter :thumleft: Apart from the ignition fuse though which I checked earlier today, is there an...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Is my ECU dead? Rev2 tubby

Its a shame i'm between mr2's at the mo or I would go out and try and induce the problem on my car to try and work out why you have no power to the ecu fuse and fuel pump, such an odd problem (if its not the immobilizer). When the car was running ok if you tried turning the car over with the immobi...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Is my ECU dead? Rev2 tubby

Suggesting you visually check the fuse was a horrible idea of mine (you should always continuity test fuses) its absolutely critical you know if its popped or not . pull a 10amp fuse from something like the radio, one you know 100% works and swop it for the 7.5 ecu fuse .. and try starting the car....

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Is my ECU dead? Rev2 tubby

I have not checked with a multimeter however (not really sure what im doing with one ) With your multi meter set to 12v.. Just ground the black probe and touch the red to both legs of the 7.5 amp engine bay fuse with the car unimmobilized and ingnition on (2 clicks) .. you should see 12v at t...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Is my ECU dead? Rev2 tubby

Check engine bay fuses are live with ignition switched on. If they're not live, them 99% immobiliser is causing you a problem. To check fuel pump circuit, short out B+ and FP in diagnostic port. I wouldn't immediately be blaming ECU when you have an immobiliser that has historical issues. Don't mea...

Hells bells, I just looked on ebay for a cheap replacement ecu .. Mr2 bens selling one for £135 plus postage :pale: Damn I sold my last one for £35 .. maybe someone living in or around blackpool with a rev1 tubby could help you out (let you borrow there ecu) .. Also if needed put a want in the want...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Is my ECU dead? Rev2 tubby

I had a similar problem once, after a bit of fault finding I suspected the relay in the engine bay, my mate came round and I borrowed his, engine light came back on and car started, was a £8 fix in the end, not sure if that is what is wrong with your car but every reply helps  I forgot to men...

[Mk2] [Turbo] Is my ECU dead? Rev2 tubby

The EML does not illuminate when I turn the ignition on. Car cranks but does not fire. Last work to be done on the car (used it twice since then and it worked fine) was me and my mate replaced the alternator belt because it was squealing like crazy on cold startup. I have since jacked the car up and...
