Re: Can't let go.
i feel your pain, and we've all been there and done silly things mucking about with cars... it's just a learning experience. one other important thing i've learned over the years is not to develop emotional attachment to cars. it will only hold you back from moving onto other things and cost you mon...

Re: Help please.
hissing sound could be inlet manifold gasket. spray some carb/brake cleaner where the manifold meets the head. if the revs climb slightly you have a gasket leak.

either buckled front wheels or they need balancing. take them to a tyre shop and get them checked before doing anything else.

great build I really like what you've done so far
Out of interest, with a boot mount intercooler, i see it pulls air from under the car, but where does it vent out from?
also - i cant view the videos you posted just now, it says they're private

Re: What pads do you n/a track goers use?
drilled and grooved discs are only good for bedding in new pads quickly.
I have had good experience of Mintexx 1155/1144, ferrodo 2250, and Hawk pads.
I also once tried project mu and dont rate them for track.
never really been keen on ebc either - any of them.

Re: jap import insurance
A few years back i was with elephant and their renewal was very high. Oddly, the best quote i got was from elephant as a new customer so i bought it online. They then wanted proof of no claims and when i said it was with them and they have it, they told me they had to post it to me and i had to send...

Re: First trackday in the £500 MR2 tomorrow!
awesome, have fun! I've been thinking about a sub £500 NA for track use. you'll discover how good the bushes are and if the brakes are up to it. One thing i would do at the very least is get some good brake pads on there and slightly overfill the oil. Normal road pads could knacker after just a few ...

Re: Is the Celica GT4 a good MR2 Tubby replacement?
i had a st185 about 10 years ago and really liked it. Wish i had a st205 gt4 though. The one i had was plenty quick even in stock form. Best thing was the handling. I thought it was well built and really solid - other than the weak head gaskets. It was heavy, but not a barge. I still hamper after a ...

Re: what is stock and safe oil pressure?
you'd be right about the oil light, although i suspect it would only come on at zero oil pressure.
I just found this though http://www.gtfours.co.uk/stuff/facts/205/facts.htm
and it suggests 4.3psi and up for idle oil pressure, so that fills me with some confidence at least!

Re: what is stock and safe oil pressure?
might well try another gauge and sender unit. it fluctuates between 3 and 15psi on idle, so it could be that my gauge is not at all accurate at low pressures.
thanks for the info though

what is stock and safe oil pressure?
I have a rev3 turbo running a bar of boost with supporting mods. it has 150k kilometers on the clock, but feel strong and in good health. Doesn't use oil between services or blow any smoke. Over the weekend I fitted oil temp and pressure gauges. I plumbed them both directly into the block by the oil...

i was in your position a few years back. I owned a 200sx which i poured my heart and soul into, didnt spend a fortune on it, but spent a lot of time getting it just how i want. I sacrificed social time, caused relationship issues etc... but i loved it to bits! after 7 years someone on the 200sxOC ma...

If I didnt already have these, I'd be in on this
the only thing i dont like about them is the gash and hole on the bottom/back of the skirt. If you can make these with that smoothed over, I'd buy a set!
****gash and hole**** OH!

thanks Peter. that is the best and most permanent way i suppose. Would rather not be modifying my sump though. Just done some power searching and found this thread which goes into depth. http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=167934&highlight=oil+gauge+fitting the three block plugs around ...
