Re: Rear arches repair , the datsun method

As an intermezzo , a few pictures of my advetures with the fuel tank . Offcourse , after 16 years of storage , with half a tank of gas , the fuel pump had seized . Took the tank out , then took the fuel pump out . http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t179/soikedubois/mr2/pomp01_zpsxjibidka.jpg No way ...

With vat an delivery comes to abt £55 for one panel . That is a 400% increase  Apparantly Hadrian panels is now owned by another company . At th...

Re: Barn Find MK1b First Start in 3 years. Help

Mine was in storage for 16 years , and apart from a seized fuel pump it was ok .
Replaced the pump , and with some gentle tapping on the injectors it fired right up .

Fuel tank was a mess .
I ll post some pictures how i solved it .

Re: Rear arches repair , the datsun method

Front section of the right rear arch . Cut out the damaged piece of sheetmetal . The lower section of the inner skin needs to be replaced to . I use electro zinc plated material for this . The zinc burns off during welding but most of it around the seam remains , and still protects the metal . And i...

Re: Rear arches repair , the datsun method

friend of mine , who teaches bodywork advised me to butt weld the new sheetmetal . He urged me not to use any overlapping or spotwelding techniques . As he's an experianced bodyworker , and I'm just an amateur , I gladly accepted his advice . Takes a bit more work to make it all fit prior to welding...

Re: Rear arches repair , the datsun method

Inner skin also neede some attention . Luckily it's only two small sections . Inner arches are hard to make , as they are a bit of a U shape http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t179/soikedubois/mr2/100_0079_zpshowodkz3.jpg http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t179/soikedubois/mr2/100_0080_zpsnqbe4bh8.j...

Re: Rear arches repair , the datsun method

reapairs are done using datsun cherry panels . Altough they are pretty close the mr2 arch , they're still way off and i t's not a "bolt on " fix . Still I'm very pleased to have them , it would have been so much harder to make the entire arch from scratch . Panels cost abt 10£ each 3 , may...

Re: 6 speed LSD Mk1 gearbox build

Paul , any recomendation on what oil to use ?
And howmuch oil the gearbox should have .

I know , with the car level , I'm to fill it till overflow .
But it's somuch easier to pour in the oil with the gerbox on the bench :)

Re: Rear arches repair , the datsun method

Oh and btw , I'm using datsun cherry repair panels . Bought them from hadrian panels a couple of years back . There were at least 5 websites selling them . Sites had names like Crashpanels , repairpanels , car body panels etc . All those sites seem to be gone now , and apparantly so is hadrians . An...

Re: Rear arches repair , the datsun method

I see ,I guess that's an antispam mesure. Annoying but understandable. My MR2 is a black one by the way . Just a basic car I'm afraid , no airco , no leather ... It does have a power kit and the dreadfull glas sunroof . I finished the right rear arch today . Very pleased with the result . Pictures w...

Rear arches repair , the datsun method

I finally started working on my rear wheel arches . This is a 1986mr2 , and I've owned it for 28 years . A while back I put it in storage for a few years , you know kids n house etc . Turns out that was 16 years ago #-o Anyway , those rear arches were already bad when I put the car away . In fact th...

Re: 6 speed LSD Mk1 gearbox build

Having finished my six speed conversion , here are some random thouhgts / remarks that might be usefull for other builders . Working on gearboxes is fun . Really it is . Fine mechanics , tight fittings .... I love it . When building a six speed variuos special tools will be needed . No point in tryi...

Re: 6 speed LSD Mk1 gearbox build

Setting the diff preload today . I don't have a torque meter , but it can also be done wth a 0- 2.5 N dynamometer . I'm using the stock MK1b diff . Maybe it's worth mentioning that , unless i'm mistaking , the mk1B bearings have to be used , not the c60 's . This is because the mk1b open diff has ot...
