Re: Minty AW11SC

Still looking very smart sir! Just reading back through your thread and I'm interested that you also felt the tokico illumina dampers were harsh. I also felt they were harsh on my MK2 when I had them. Gorgeous steering wheel though.

Re: Tale of two MR2's...Koni suspension fitted

This thread is long due an update. I'll split it into two parts as I need a decent day of weather to get photos of a lot of the progress. Firstly, I had two new sills fitted. I entrusted a bodyshop to do this work for me this time and while it has been done succesfully, I have reservations about how...

Re: Reinstating Air Con

Following up on this again, the condenser I ordered from the states (links I posted in a previous reply) arrived this week. It is a genuine Denso item and the fit and quality it faultless. I've just looked on eBay and there are plenty available. The buyer I bought from has sold out, although it bein...

Re: Reinstating Air Con

Just to follow up on this...replying to your post prompted me to check the cross references of OE part numbers with DENSO part numbers (the OE manufacturer of the entire system). The OE part number for r134a gas systems is 88460-17080 (change this last number to 17060 if your system is R12). This pa...

Re: Reinstating Air Con

Finally someone else living this pain. I also removed my system years ago and I am currently re-installing it. I'll have a full tutorial on my build thread in about 2/3 months time but my advice for the time being would be to source a compressor/pump and the associated bolts, idler pulley and bracke...

Re: Compatibility of Rev3 and Rev1 A/C connectors

For anyone searching this thread in the future looking for an update... rev1/2 A/C connectors will NOT fit rev3 fittings - at least not at critical areas such as the connection to the compressor or condenser. The fittings are the same rough shape but the bore diameter is completely different. I have...

Really interesting and in depth update, I enjoyed reading that! I completely know where you're coming from regarding emissions and the exhaust setup I found the TCS Motorsport option was the perfect solution. https://www.tcsmotorsports.com/en-gb/collections/exhaust/products/tcs-motorsports-single-m...

Re: Tale of two MR2's...Wilhelm Raceworks geometry kit finally fitted

Very cool man. Loving the washer jets! Is the switch for hi-low boost? I have my boost switch wired into the old fog light switch. Very oem! Switch is actually for the aerial so I can have the head unit switched on to listen to an iPod etc without sending a signal to the aerial motor and having it ...

That look so cool... Love it.

Was it hard to modify the scuttle board?

Apologies for not replying! No it wasn't hard at all actually, fine tooth hobby saw and a dremel with a slim drum sander to tidy it up worked well.

Re: Tale of two MR2's...Wilhelm Raceworks geometry kit finally fitted

Time for another update - exhaust related again  I thought I was happy with the single exit I made...but actually as time went on I really missed the unique engine note that the MR2 has with such a short overall exhaust. I have always been a fan of how the Berk Technology system looks but in r...

Compatibility of Rev3 and Rev1 A/C connectors

Question for anyone in the know. I'm rebuilding the A/C system on my Rev3 and have sourced quite a few of the pipework specific to Rev3 (drier and pipework connecting to the pump). What I'm wondering is whether I can get away with Rev1 pipes that go from front to back, or is there a difference in th...

Re: Springs and struts

Great progress and interesting use of spring insulators, I haven't come across this before, what's the purpose/theory behind it? I agree the 17" rears and 16" aren't going to do any favours for arch gap! I know you've just bought new tyres but...might be worth pushing the sidewall out to a...

Re: Springs and struts

Blimey, yes that is a lot of variations!! Definitely right to be worried about those exposed spherical bearings, I'm so surprised that Alex hasn't suggested people use rubber boots which you can stretch over - although he doesn't market it toward road use and for track usage I imagine exposed joints...

Re: Springs and struts

I had also read the issue of front and rear height differences...I wonder if the issue is use of them with the wrong strut bodies, I'll have to have a look at the intended year use when I get a chance as it has been bugging me! I suspect most people are using them on late body non-rebuildable struts...

Re: Springs and struts

Interesting, I too changed from the D2 coil-overs around 5 years ago for similar reasons. I got hold of some rebuildable struts from GTSChris' drag car when he was still in business, absolute bargain and one of the best decisions I've made for the car. Not sure that there is any fruit to the story o...

Re: Tale of two MR2's...Wilhelm Raceworks geometry kit finally fitted

Yeh I'm not expecting much in the way of longevity! The boots were generic M16/M18 items from eBay, can't say I was overly impressed by the quality of them as a few had holes in...but they'll still be better than exposed metal. Didn't do the alignment myself, went down that road with string and pipe...

Re: Tale of two MR2's...Wilhelm Raceworks geometry kit finally fitted

Considering I received the geometry kit from Wilhelm Raceworks in July 2018...it's pretty bad that it's taken me this long to actually fit it! No matter, the opportunity presented itself this week, and we're now rocking the full geometry kit and fresh Yokohama AD08rs tyres all round, ready for the s...

Re: Why are MR2 Turbos still undervalued?

Judging from the recent surge in youtube content around the MR2, almost exclusively in America, I would agree that the interest is far greater across the pond than it is here. I might even go so far as to say that their is greater appreciation for them over there...the prices over there would sugges...

Re: Why are MR2 Turbos still undervalued?

I think it's interesting how a lot of us are talking about the MR2 as an 'investment'. I'm not sure this is the best approach to MR2 ownership. I've owned my rev 3 turbo for the better part of a decade now, bought at a time when well modified/clean examples were fetching 3-4K. I paid 3.5K for mine. ...
